On Saturday, he released a statement regarding Smith. In it, Addazio admits he knew of “an issue” involving Smith and his ex-wife while both were assistants at UF, but claimed to not know specific details

While an assistant coach at Florida in 2009, I was aware that there was an issue in the personal life of Zach and Courtney Smith,” Addazio said via the Boston Globe. “I did not know specifics, and I knew the matter was in the hands of university personnel and that the couple was involved in counseling.

Why did this violent buffoon keep getting hired? Did freakin Earle Bruce have that much pull?

Daz is a dope, of course he knew. Our AD also knew about Smith, but he was just an assistant AD at the time.

I still think 09 is the real key to this. What is alleged there is Urby INTERFERING with the criminal case to save his boy from getting charged for choke-slamming his pregnant wife.

IF it is true, that dwarfs and eclipses anything Joepa was ever even rumored to have done. Keep on mind that the only thing which stops batterers is intervention. Urby stopped the intervention.

Another point alluded to by @wbcincy : even when the victim declines to press charges, most police departments/prosecutors push DV cases forward anyway, because they know early intervention is the only chance.

None of these PDs did this, not in Florida, not in Ohio. Why?

The issue of whether UM put his thumb on the scale in 09 is potentially THE key here. If Ohio State's investigation does not conclude on the 09 case, it is a sham. That failure covered everything.

Urban's legacy comes down to exactly this.

Powell police called Gene Smith first. That should answer your question.

And why do you think the Powell police changed the report? Obviously Gene Smith literally holds a lot of power in the Columbus area.

There’s two options. The report was actually incorrect (unlikely). The police thought it would be beneficial to change it.

if you remember Urbs sent the 09 problem with Doc Holiday to Huntington, WV and Marshall. After that it got shipped to Philly and Temple with Steve A. I remember at the time it seemed odd for someone to come here and immediately jump to Temple, there were some questioning why so quickly. So now you wonder if it was Doc's choice or Zack's choice.

FWIW Addazio says he knew in 09 about Smith, but Doc says he did not, edit Doc was there 2005-2007 so maybe he didnt know.

It's very likely Holliday didn't know anything. It's also likely that Addazio knew there was a family matter, but didn't know the specifics - which is essentially what he said. I don't think any charges came out of '09, it's not unreasonable to assume that members of the staff didn't know specifics. Without charges and still married, Smith wouldn't have a background check issue at Marshall or Temple.

I agreed with this, especially after reading the article linked.
