I heard the audio on Bob & Tom and found the video on Youtube. Very wise woman.....

I don't take advice from people that think it's a good idea to record a video while driving, especially someone trying to talk about personal safety. I don't know the numbers, but I'd guess this woman was more than a thousand times more likely to get injured or killed while taping this video than she would be swimming in the ocean.

Shark attacks are extremely rare, they just get lots of publicity. If you want to go in the ocean, go in the ocean. You are at greater risk of death driving to work. Jeez.

Sort of related...was at the DE shore this past weekend. A school of dolphins swims by and everybody freaks out and runs out of the water. Amazing how the news can stir such a panic.

Not sure you can blame the media for that.

Yep, media hype. Next they'll be advocating elimination of all shark species.

This is why I don't understand the fear of automated cars such as Google, etc. Every time I go for groceries, I see loads of people that can't push a shopping cart and talk on the phone at the same time. Shoot, many can't walk and talk on the phone at teh same time. I'd rather put my life in the hands of a robot car than your average human with a cell phone.

"When chickens come into my house they get ate. The ocean is the Sharks house and will ate you up. Praise the Lord"

Sounds like that Florida representative a few years ago that gave the 'go gator' speech on the floor of the House of Representatives while in her bathrobe. ;)

Went to Ocean City A few weeks ago for a few days. Friends family stays out there and to be honest. I didn't even go into the water. It rained 2 out of the 3 days and just laid out the other. I never really liked swimming in water I couldn't see my feet.

FWIW....My wild ass guess on this is two fold. Shark populations are on the rise due to public awareness and shark prey/food sources are on the decline due to overfishing namely Menhaden whose spawning grounds/fishing grounds are very close to the recent shark attacks. The state of Virginia allows huge Russian fishing trollers to harvest gigantic amounts of menhaden right at the mouth of the Chesapeake & Outer Banks.

....just a wild ass guess.
No idea for sure but I have heard the turtle population is exploding down south the and sharks are following the turtles (following their food source)
