Was thinking about driving out of Philly to Allentown area and taking a train into the city then taking the train back to Allentown so that I can drive to just north of State College.

1) Does this make sense?
2) Where should we drop the car and take the train...which station?
3) How long of a train ride would it be into the city from the designated station?

The air bnb in NY does not have a parking spot, so I would have to get lucky with a spot or spend > $75 a night.

Thanks.

Check the NJ Transit website and map to determine best train station to go to NYC. Some of the stations are small so google map them to make sure they have adequate parking.

Hamilton is an option but if you are set on going to Allentown Pa it’s out of the way.

If your plan is to go to NYC between Christmas abd NYE be advised that the trains will be jammed. And if you have never tried to get on the train st Penn Ststion it can be a bit intimidating the first time.

If you are already in Philly then you can simply take AMTRAK to Penn Station. Only stops in Trenton I believe and it’s the Acela so it’s a fast train.

Not all trains out of Philly are Acela’s and there are numerous stops between Philly and Penn station.

One option not discussed and always easy is to take the Bieber Bus out of Allentown, Kutztown or Hellertown, parking is free. This puts you on 78 for your journey back to central Pennsylvania. Bieber runs buses on the hour in and out, it is inexpensive, comfortable and easy.

That works. There is a parking garage right at the back end (walnut st) entrance to the train station. You can take either Amtrak or NJ Transit from there. The parking cost is somewhere around $12 per day. The former is faster but more expensive and doesn’t run as often. Be a little careful with parking as Trenton has become gang infested and some neighborhoods near the train station are a bit sketchy. Just don’t go wondering around.

Unfortunately Bieber went out of business. I think Klein’s may have picked up some of the routes but nor sure.

Damn! I now live in Pittsburgh and have not taken the bus in years. What a shame. It was great service.
