Looks like a great longer term prospect. CJF likes to season his OL players for at least a couple of years before they are regular contributors so a kid like him could be a monster by the time he is a redshirt Junior.I believe he was a TE before last year, so he is a bit raw. But he looked pretty good on film.
There will be more Hack's, hopefully. What's the name of the top 2017 QB that's we're in on?
Talent evaluation certainly seems like a strong suit for this staff, especially early talent evaluation. It seems that there are certain measureables that the staff feels they can identify in recruits by their sophomore or junior years - tall but lanky offensive linemen, taller, long-armed CBs, etc - and recruit those kids hard expecting that 1) their weight will fill out in their senior years and when they get to campus, 2) they can hustle and establish relationships with the kids before they blow up and have other schools recruiting them as hard as we do, and 3) their body types will allow them to progress into the types of players we want at each position.two things that seem pretty evident from watching Franklin recruit.
1. He is after Tall lanky tackles. A lot of the recruiting targets are built this way as well. PP, sorell and Jenkins all fit that mold. Jenkins looks rather skinny even though he is over 300lbs. So they definitely have a body build they are are going after with regards to lineman.
2. Franklin and staff seem to be locating some under the radar talent before a lot of other staffs. PSU was on tre nixon very early on then he recruiting took off. The DT from Illinois(I'm not going to butcher his name) is another example. People were questioning the offer then he starts exploding on the camp scene. PSU got in early on Dalton along with Alabama then a lot of big time schools followed suit. Even a kid like Hill who was rated high already really took off on the camp scene now everyone is offering him. SO I think they definitely have an eye for talent.
CJF said early on that he liked players who were lean and athletic and had long arms , large heads and big hands and feet. Daquan Kelly is my classic example. He was a well ranked DB, CJF et el saw different potential. Now he is projected to be a very versatile OLB.Talent evaluation certainly seems like a strong suit for this staff, especially early talent evaluation. I'd be curious to hear more from Franklin about this, although I suspect he'd keep his strategy pretty close to the vest. Chip Kelly and Pete Carroll did something similar for years both in college and the NFL - they have pretty firm ideal measureables body types for all of their position players, and recruit the best athletes they can find that fit those measureables who also possess the work ethic necessary to succeed in their systems. I suspect Franklin has similar ideal measureables for his recruits, but I don't believe I've ever heard him comment specifically on it.
