Allar Drive...what could have been?

Not sure if this was commented on yet.
Had Tyler Warren caught that beautiful NFL caliber touch pass on 2nd and 7, Allar would have been 3-3 for 48 yards and sitting first down at Purdue's 29-yard line. I think Allar was poised enough at that point to keep driving for a TD. That would have caused a QB controversy for the rest of the season.
Allar looked good for a freshman.

I think Warren saw the defender coming at him. It would have been a tough catch but one that great players make.

To be fair, Allar's 4th pass was poorly thrown and he could have easily run for the 1st down.

Well, weird how he got amazingly better all of a sudden.

He is an example of how Franklin tries to force players to play his system no matter how their skill sets match up.
Yet Franklin was the only coach that recruited him…so what does that say about all the other coaches in the country? But Kentucky wanted him after he played for Franklin….I guess Stoops is a moron for going after a player who was recruited and played for such a lousy coach. And not too many coaches change their entire system to fit one backup player.

Yes, my point exactly. You can't hold Warren more accountable for the drive ending than Drew - Drew had the clear opportunity to extend the drive and flat-out made the wrong decision (had an easy first down and a large gain if he simply keeps running and goes OB as the pursuit closes in...). PSU has the ball 1st-&-10 deep in Purdue territory if he made the correct decision. However, Drew is just a freshman and needs game experience - we learn more from our mistakes than we do our successes. But the play is a good example of why Cliff is still the starter - you can fault Cliff for things such as being a streaky thrower, but he is very good at extending drives with his feet and frustrating defenses. Again, not knocking Drew in any way - he looked good, especially being on a tr-FR in his first collegiate game. He's young he will get better in that situation and all situations as he gets more game reps.

No need to change the entire offense. Any offense has a large variety of plays that can be called in various situations. And I am quite sure there are multiple drop back passes in the PSU offensive playbook. All that had to be done was call those plays that suited Levis and his skill set.

And these are college players which comes with the assumption they have a reasonable level of intelligence. They could quickly learn three or four plays to run in the case that Levis enters the game. Especially ones that emphasize his skills and the roll he played. Such as he takes the shotgun snap, fakes a run, and hits the TE on a hot read.

When he came in all he did was run straight ahead on 90% of the plays, if not a higher rate. Defenses quickly keyed on that. Shoulda mixed it up more.

Allar should get a healthy number of series with Ohio and Central Michigan- get him meshin aroun in the mesh point at mesh point with Singleton and Allen. Give you nerds enough material to write Ulysses.

He couldn’t pass very well at that time or do you forget the games he actually did pass. Going back and judging the coaching based on a player’s current skill set two years later is not accurate. Should we have thrown a million passes to Gesicki in his first couple of years when he couldn’t catch the ball? And after watching Kentucky’s game Saturday, I think we will see a drop in Levis’s passing efficiency this year since their OLine is not very good compared to last year. He was sacked four times and it would have been six if he hadn’t managed to squeak out a yard on two other plays to avoid it being called a sack against Miami of Ohio. I’m not sure he will make it out of the Georgia game alive.

He actually passed very well when he dropped back to pass. But he was forced to run the RPO style which ain’t him. Problem running drop back passes with him in would have been our porous o line.

So the same problem he will face this year.

Actually...had Warren simply caught that ball, that's a touchdown. Front defender was on his way down and the back defender took a bad angle and whiffed on both Warren and the ball. Warren was still on his feet and well inside the boundary. Catch that and he walks into the end zone.

Not important. Just win the game. If you can get him in, get him in. This team is in no position to game plan blowouts of anyone.
