She is awesome. She also won a silver in Giant Slalom. With the unfortunate injury to Lara Gut, Shiffrin is a lock to win the overall world cup.
An amusing story. Last year a friend of ours rode up the lift with Shiffrin and her mother/coach at Beaver Creek. She didn't realize who she was with while talking to them about mountain conditions and other small talk. She then asked, "Oh do you race?". To which she got the reply. "Yes I'm on the US Ski team". She then realized who she was talking to and why her friend had been poking her in the ribs the whole time.

She's really good, but that's an unbelievable gap between 1st and 2nd. Seems as though she had an excellent 1st run, and an off-the-charts 2nd run.
I watched the 2nd race on the Austrian ORF feed on YouTube and she stomped on it from the steep part on.

Last skier on that second run with rutted conditions and she nailed it, peddle to the metal. Best damn slalom skier I have ever seen. Mentally, physically and technically awesome! Just 21 years old, too.
