Care to comment on the truce between PSU and the Paterno’s ??? I don’t recall seeing any commentary from you on this. I’d like to know more about it before I cast my ballot.

Quite frankly, the announcement caught me off guard as I had no knowledge of an imminent settlement.

I have not spoken with Sue since the announcement so I can’t speak to her feelings.

For me the settlement changes nothing although I believe some of the statement by PSU will be useful fodder going forward.

Who are the good guys

Good point Anthony. Keep fighting.

What's even the point of alumni trustees? They have no power, and most of them disappear into the fog no sooner than they're elected.

They form the silent minority- powerless to impact anything, and unheard if they say anything.

Well I agree the alumni BOT will never be able to change things but don't limit it to the BoT.If I am not mistaken Dem was an outspoken critic until he became an insider of sorts then when dark on the subject.
Having said that Anthony is the only person who has shown any courage in fighting these guys and hasn't lost his passion. He also tries to keep this board informed and I appreciate that and he will get my vote. Jay will get my vote simply because Sue would probably like to see him win and she deserves it. My hope for any change is long long gone.

And yet...… so many will simply give them a pass - and keep re-electing the same folks (or those of the same ilk).

Funny that.

I am sure that if those same folks - who adamantly insist on giving the BOT folks a pass - saw the folks who they elected to State or Federal legislatures:

Simply lay down and die (ie, vote in lockstep with some majority group they were elected to OPPOSE, or simply abdicate doing ANYTHING resembling their job) they would certainly not keep re-electing THOSE people... would they?

They would not give those representatives a pass for fiduciary failure by saying "Well, they are in the minority... nothing they do matters anyway"..... would they?

Hmmmm. Funny that. Shameful, really... more than "funny".

You put next to no effort to get on the ballot year after year. If Cat Ballou can do it, so can you

I will :)

PSU wrote out a sizable check to the Paternos.
The "Paternos" (Sue Paterno, anyway) gave PSU "leadership" a nice letter.... saying that all you peons should support them.

Take it for what you will.... but that's what happened (obviously)….. so it shouldn't be all that difficult to analyze the situation.

Aside from the fact that it involved PSU "leadership" writing out another check (we don't know exactly how large of a check), using your money, in order to serve their own self-interests, really not anything to see here vav University Governance or the BOT.

Whatever check the school wrote, I bet it’s a lot smaller than the checks the Paternos wrote to the school. See library, professorship endowments etc..
Please let me know if you find another football coach that has those things- library and prof endowments- on their resume.

Even while pursuing the lawsuit the Paterno family have continued to make contributions to Penn State. They have put the University above the egregious acts of the BOT.

Some people don't mind if their money is pissed away.

Who ya' arguing with?

Not me..... unless you're stoopid.

And thus concludes another year and another wasted effort, to the surprise of very few. It sure seems like you're dying to be on the BOT, but you refuse to play the game even a little to win the minimal number of nominations. Perhaps that is noble of you to stand firm. But, it is often said that doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results ... well, you know.

As is their right. Without question.

But, ponder me this Batman:

If that be the case........
Why go through all the contortions of whatever "action" they supposedly had against the University.... that led to the BOT writing them out a check from the University treasury.....
And not simply kill two birds with one (incredibly less tiresome) stone - - - and just write out a somewhat smaller check (smaller in the amount of the settlement check from the University) vav their "annual donation"?
And call it all "even-steven"?

Seeing as how that - KISS :) - would have also precluded the need for lawyers to jump in and rack up huge bills, making the whole $$$ fungability more expensive for EVERYONE (including PSU's tuition-paying students)….. why wouldn't they have done that?
Both sides can do simple math.... right?

Don't hurt yourself.
I think that’s a question best answered by Sue. I suspect she is able to compartmentalize the issues, separating the wrongs committed against the Paterno family from her desire to support the University from a philanthropic standpoint. It’s complicated surely and many of us if put in the same position would feel conflicted. There seems (to me anyway) to be much more at stake than just money. But again, I really don’t know what her frame of mind was regarding her approach to all this, but I’m glad it reached a settlement which was acceptable to her and the Paterno family.

As I answered above:

I wouldn’t expect you to understand.

Without getting sidetracked by all the things you don't know :) .....

One question:

What actions/"efforts" do you think would/should catalyze YOU to place someone's name (anyone's - - - not me, specifically) on your "nomination ballot" (assuming that you are a PSU alumni, and receive, and submit, such a ballot)?

Simple question...… I assume you would find it easy enough to address.

I'll wait......

I personally would have nominated you if you did not curse and use derogatory terms on this board

More generally, just some basic marketing techniques would work. Gotta think some of them rubbed off on you in the hallowed halls of Smeal

Outside of calling us RETARDS. , did BARRY. ever give specifics of what he would have done as a trustee (What and how?)? I know he vowed to give the establishment an ASS. BEATING. and be disruptive. Yippee. It’s hard to identify the MEAT. and tangible deliverables, if there were any, through the berating and associated slobbering. Then again, I am a RETARD. .

SWEET. JEEBZUS.

Cursing and using derogatory terms should be a prerequisite for any candidate for the BoT.

This is unfortunately true - Barry can't help himself or get out of his own way. I still nominated him and will write-in his name on my ballot, but yeah, he could dial it back a bit. That said, someone who is good at playing nice isn't what the BOT needs. We've had plenty of those and they did nothing.

Perfectly stated.....well done, sir. I did and will do the same thing.
