Not surprising. Bezos also pulled out of his marriage vows.
is he going to send a dic pick to NYC?Not surprising. Bezos also pulled out of his marriage vows.

He always wanted the Va site from day one. The rest was a scam, including the number of potential jobs created. It was all just a way to get the best deal possible. Trump would be proud of him for playing the game so well.
The one good thing if they pull out of NYC is that some of those jobs will get spread around to other cities. 3000 here, 5000 there, maybe 2500 over there. That would be much better for all as it wouldn't such a large stress on infrastructure, local housing and labor markets.
Hoping that Pittsburgh picks up several thousand. A great site would be the GE nuclear research site near Cranberry that is being shut down. Highly possible since they already have a substantial workforce in Pittsburgh and all accounts say that those people love it here.
Regardless of incentives given by NY State it makes no sense to open a facility like this on Long Island. Everything on Long Island must pass through NYC to get there and that adds a tremendous expense to everything.
This is true. He also got lots of free publicity from all the local media in all the cities and used the leverage to get more favorable terms. Only the terminally naive believe that he didn't have a pretty good idea where he was going and needed a committee to help him decide. He always wanted the Va site from day one. That's what I was thinking. Amazon already has lots of data on Newark. Also a diverse areaThe NY HQ2 was about talented people, but if it's a headache Amazon can simply move it to NJ.

They could’ve changed the future of two cities, and improved the lives of the millions who live in those places. Instead they went two places that will barely notice, that their people don’t even want, and will change little for most. Such a missed opportunity for something great.

There are four counties on LI: Kings, Queens, Nassau, Suffolk. LI City is on the island and therefore will still see high costs. You have to cross either through Manhattan, Staten Island or the Bronx to get there. No easy, or inexpensive, task.In case you didn't realize it, Long Island City, the proposed site of the Amazon facility, is a neighborhood in the Borough of Queens which is a part of New York City.
NJ would be stupid. Even worse climate than NY.The NY HQ2 was about talented people, but if it's a headache Amazon can simply move it to NJ.

You probably haven't met many of the people who work in the higher levels of these companies.
The thought of visiting Alabama or working in Pittsburgh is a non-starter.
LdN
Not sure you have visited Buffalo but that is certainly worse in climate than any part of NJ
LdN
Yeah, that rarely happens. Not surprising. Bezos also pulled out of his marriage vows.
I have a feeling that if Amazon had their HQ in Bizmark ND, they could get talented people to move there...The NY HQ2 was about talented people, but if it's a headache Amazon can simply move it to NJ.

FWIW, that wasn’t one of the sites that Amazon was considering when evaluating Pittsburgh’s original bid. They were considering the Civic Arena site downtown, the Almono site in Hazelwood, the Strip District, and a site out towards the airport, and the speculation during the site visits was that the company seemed most impressed with the Strip District near where Uber, Apple and Facebook have their Pittsburgh offices. He always wanted the Va site from day one. Not sure what you’re talking about passing things through NYC. Construction materials for the buildings? Employee commutes? These are corporate offices, not warehouses. They already have facilities in Elizabeth, NJ where the port is for those kinds of activities and jobs.Regardless of incentives given by NY State it makes no sense to open a facility like this on Long Island. Uh, no. LOL Not as many as they need.I have a feeling that if Amazon had their HQ in Bizmark ND, they could get talented people to move there...

Pittsburgh and 99% of the other cities on the list were never really in contention. The purpose of the bogus list was to (1) get a lot of free media PR nationwide and (2) gain negotiating leverage for tax payer dollar giveaways from the real targets, such as locations in the DC and NYC areas. The idea that Bezos was going to decide among hundreds of cities and needed a lot of help with the decision is ludicrous and shows how easy it is for big corporations to fool people. It worked. And good for some in NYC for finally coming to their senses.FWIW, that wasn’t one of the sites that Amazon was considering when evaluating Pittsburgh’s original bid. If Amazon were to increase their presence in Pittsburgh (which would likely mean moving from their current location on the South Side), I’d think they’d locate to another location in the city near the universities and the talent pool - and my guess would be the Strip District. It’s not the easiest sell in the world to recruit the kind of tech talent Amazon wants to relocate to Pittsburgh and work in Cranberry Township, an unwalkable exurb 20 miles outside of the city with almost no public transit infrastructure to speak of.
