And the poorest county in Pennsylvania is..................................

Not sure about that, but they are two of the most beautiful counties in PA and attract some tourism and seasonal groups for sure.

You can check it, though "convention" is a bit of an exaggeration to describe their gatherings.

McKean still has Zippo Lighter.

Surprised this isn’t York

Taking a look at income figures (2010), York County seems pretty well off

Per Capita income it ranks #12
Median household income it ranks #7
Median Family income it ranks # 8

This suprised me as well. Forest and Fayette counties are at the bottom.

My guess is Somerset is down around there too.

Somerset, Mifflin, Clinton, Sullivan, Clearfield (where I grew up), and Philadelphia are among the lower tier counties by that data.

Chester, Montgomery, Bucks, Delaware, Cumberland are the top 5 in every category.

Again this is 2010 data, so not sure how much has changed in the last 7-8 years.

I should have guessed Mifflin. I've been through it a few times. LOL.
Somerset (where I grew up) might have improved a little, I can tell that the town itself is doing a little better.
Unemployment was through the roof in 2010 I think it might have been as high as 12% but
its been going down since then. I think the last time I saw the Daily American it was at about 5%, that would
have been around Christmas 2017.

Mifflin is a beautiful county but there just is not much there (unless you like to fish/hunt). I spend quite a bit of time there fishing, but that is about it. Otherwise its a drive through county.

I would have guessed Forest County. Beautiful place, but there are more deer than people there. I guess the SCI near Marienville boosts the economy a bit.

That seems to describe a lot of the counties in PA, especially in the west and central parts. LOL.

My initial reaction was Greene and Fayette.

Greene is a weird one because of all the gas money. Lots of business there when the gas drilling was booming. I am not sure what it is like there now, but there were a lot of people in that county working with the drilling companies

Every so often, Potter gets an infusion of "tourist dollars" when some Klan or Nazi group decides to hold a convention.

Well lets try this.

Philly is at the bottom due to gangs, drug dealers, bad cops, and corrupt politicians. Add in white flight to outer suburbs where the wealthy live. Puts them way behind all those rural counties.

Partly true. The center city area and a few other trendy neighborhoods like Fishtown and Manyunk have seen a lot of increases in wealth, as white professionals have driven up the averages. But the more seedy areas which have long been problems such as North Philadelphia, Kensington, SW Philadelphia, etc., are still pretty bad. It’s a city of neighborhoods - some are very good, and some are pretty horrific. The downtown area has become very posh however, and most of us couldn’t afford to live there.

You've heard the term "nimby?" The folks who are making the serious money from that activity don't live there.

Actually I have never heard of the term. I looked it up and now I am enlightened and smarter.
On that note I was originally from that area. I can tell you that some of my relatives (and others) with land are doing VERY well (no pun intended). Secondly, the hometown is also doing very well.

That was the main thing I came away with when I was visiting this summer.
I spent time in Cornwells hgts but I worked for 3 years (during the summer) at 15th and Walnut in the 80's.

I travel from Philly to Pittsburgh regularly for my remaining clients and York, to me, is by far the worst city of the Southern Tier counties. County as a whole, has money in thr north (Harrisburg suburb) and the south (Baltimore suburb).

Or maybe Philadelphia has drug dealers who sell to a the suburban users who come into the City because it is the poorest county. And there are bad police officers and corrupt politicians in most counties. Let’s not forget the underfunding of the Philadelphia Schools by the Commonwealth. All make a great recipe for a poor county.
