This is completely absurd. They're not even trying to negotiate, they're just trying to pay people off so their malfeasance isn't caught. Its a dangerous game they're playing if they think they can't get caught.

Penn State just agreed to pay another six Sandusky victims $33 million ($5.5mn per victim).

Meanwhile, back in August, the Milwaukee Archdiocese agreed to pay $21mn to 330 victims ($63.636 per victim).

What is wrong with this picture? Why is Penn State paying so much? Why is no one asking questions?

Because the narrative has been set in stone by the BOT. And the MSM has been complicit in all of this. It really has become hard for me to take pride or support anything related to Penn State. It is a disgrace.

Absolutely unreal.

I agree. I wonder if PSU's counsel even negotiates or engages in discovery such as interrogatories and depositions.

FWIW, This is not "news".

This occurred several months back, and was crammed down without discussion by the OG BOT at an 11nth hour BOT meeting.

It was done - literally - hours before discovery was to commence in the case of the "victim" who HAD NOT waived his right to pursue action against the Second Mile.

With the cram down, the OG BOT was able to buy off the "victims", and short-circuit the discovery process involving the Second Mile.

The record is out there. Many might be surprised at just who voted in favor of this cram down.

Look it up - and be prepared to be shocked (or, based on some more recent events, NOT shocked).

This is especially puzzling in wake of the courts decision allowing Sandusky to collect his pension because "he was not an employee of Penn State when the alleged crimes occurred."

The university has been backed into a corner by the Freeh Report, which every attorney is going to wave in front of every jury. The trustees who engineered that report need to be held accountable for the damage that it's done to Penn State.

I'm sure The Second Mile is paying some money as well considering that's where Sandusky found his victims.

That would be incorrect. I thought just about anyone who has been following this would be well aware of that.

Why would they? They have no liability - thanks to the actions of certain folks on the PSU BOT, and their co-horts.

Ever heard of sarcasm?

November 12 Paterno gives notice they intend to subpoena Penn State's Risk Officer, Gary Langsdale, for all depositions he gave pertaining to civil actions around JS or Freeh. Also, every document that Langsdale was the author or recipient, that discuss, refer or relate to JS, the Freeh investigation or the Freeh report.

November 23, Penn State settles with V6. What a strange coincidence.

I too recall the emergency meeting called by Masser when several payments were approved. The amount of $$ was not shared at that time. The discovery that was about to commence was subsequently cancelled after payments were approved. I wonder who was on the list to be deposed.

"In retrospect, I should never have voted to approve any of the settlements," trustee Anthony Lubrano said Friday, though he declined to elaborate. Lubrano, like other alumni-elected board members, has been highly critical of the university's handling of the Sandusky scandal.

Victim 6 appears to be the only one PSU truly "challenged" in court. They made repeated medical record requests and 6 wasn't able to produce them. It's curious this is the only case that PSU employed this strategy, especially since Victim 6's claims were more fully corroborated than any of the others. Is there something they don't want us to know about this incident?

Whatever they are hiding it is in those source files. Each time a litigant is awarded Accra to them, settlement is quickly agreed to behind closed doors.

The real scandal behind all of this will tear the school to its foundation.

Indeed, this is true. What is behind the curtain?

It must be doctored emails.

Not only that, but - IIRC - A Lubrano did NOT vote to approve that 2nd Wave of cram down settlement dollars. If fact - again, IIRC - he spoke out strongly against them.

If I remember correctly Peetz was tops on the list, and her deposition was to begin within 24 hours.

Wait until the NCAA starts their discovery of PSU and the bot. Fun times ahead.

unreal...help me out...back in the 70's Sandusky patted me on the butt at a camp at PSU. What do you think that is worth? Seriously...give me 200k and I am a happy guy!

Why is the PA media not paying attention to this? The Second Mile charity has seemed shady from the first day the news broke, but nobody has paid any attention. In my mind, there are two major questions. 1) legally, how was the board treated and what could the board members have been liable for? i.e., if the charity was found liable, could its former board members be personally sued? ; 2) if so, what are the connections between the PSU board and the charity's board, and is anyone manipulating the situation to make PSU bail out individuals? Nothing in this case really makes sense, unless you assume that multiple people have a huge incentive to deflect any and all attention away from the charity.

From another article:

"To put the exorbitant $93 million sum in perspective, the payouts could have funded Joe Paterno at his top salary for more than 180 seasons, pay Alabama coach Nick Saban’s annual salary for 13 years, or pay full tuition for more than 5,000 Penn State students."

To think of all the years JVP gave PSU such a huge discount on his salary... it's all just a drop in the bucket compared the damage JS inflicted on TSM kids and the community. smdh
