Anthony Donkoh

I feel losing Donkoh early was the reason we struggled to run the ball. Rucci is just not a starting P5 tackle. I hope Donkoh is back for USC. He’s our best OLineman hands down. Rucci got beat too many times and isn’t aggressive. We may need to move Nelson or Cousins to RT I’d Donkoh can’t go. Any updates on his injury?
Rucci just doesn't seem strong enough to be a dominant run blocker.

We learned he has trouble keeping weight on, which is a real problem at his height in this conference.
Yes, but reportedly he made nice strides in the winter S&C program. But the reported increases strength, and weight, doesn't seem to be showing up on the field in his run blocking.

You are spot on about Donkoh. His loss is more critical than Singleton and it showed against UCLA. He destroys people and gets to the second level in a flash. Watch replays of all the games to see for yourself. I read on line during the game that he went into the tent without pads. However, after he left the tent he put his pads back on. I hope that was an encouraging sign

A month ago most of you were worried that Donkoh was a step down and losing three starters was was going to hurt the OL. Now there are threads on this being the best OL since 94.

I disagree that his loss is more significant than Singleton but still, don't want to see him miss any action.

Yep, why burn a game for Martin and then only give him 1 carry.... Allen is a very good RB, but he won't give the team the explosive plays that a quicker back would. The staff has seen Martin in practice and we haven't seen much of him, but his high school film shows an athlete that is considerably faster than Allen.
While it is true that Q only had 1 rushing attempt, he did tie for the team lead with 3 receptions along with Cliff, Trey, and Tyler.

Having stated that, I would have like to see him incorporated into the running game in a more significant way.

Franklin talked up Denmark and Clifford in camp. At least Clifford is starting to finally emerge as Allar gets more comfortable with him. But we do need more of an explosive threat as you said.
Right now they don't need Denmark. He will get his four games though.

Yep, from Martin's H.S. production it was pretty obvious that he was going to be a very good receiver, so his production receiving is no surprise.

But I believe he will be the next feature back at PSU when one or both of Singleton and Allen are gone and if the staff also believes that they should get him comfortable in the running game with 5+ carries a game in the games they use him. I'd love to see his ability to break tackles and how he picks his running lanes as well as his acceleration through them. From the limited carries in the B/W game he did seem to have plus vision.

Martin is a pretty big framed RB and it would surprise me if he's not playing at 215+lbs by the 2025 season.

I believe that the announcers stated that his current playing weight as a true freshmen in college is 202.

Even at 215, I can envision PSU continuing to implore a 2 back system with Q and Cam Wallace in the backfield ala Singleton and Allen.

Seider is all in on fielding and playing two high level RB's and that's not likely to change no matter what Weight Martin plays at. Marting is listed at 205 lb on the PSU roster and obviously like any other person a player's weight fluctuates a few lbs.

I know that Franklin has been a big supporter of Wallace but it would not surprise me to see one of the other backs, Smith or one of the 2025 RB's, paired with Martin by midseason 2025. That's provided both Singleton and Allen both leave for the NFL after this season, which may not be a given. With RB's not that often taken high in the draft maybe one of them returns to enjoy college for another year with a good NIL deal.

Gotta disagree, Allen is one of the best football players on the team. He is someone who gets first downs and wins games. He blocks beautifully, he's got wideout skills, he reads defenses and chooses holes so intelligently. If you go back far enough, Bobby Engram was a wideout who ran probably a 4.7, he was kind of slow for his size, but at the college level he was dominant. He won so many games over the years with intelligence and strength and toughness and great technique. Allen is like that.

I think Allen and Singleton are equally important and each can do some things a little better than the other. Singleton probably a better NFL prospect because of his speed but players like Allen who can get the tough yards inside are coveted by the NFL as well.

I was noticing yesterday that the QB's ability to read on the read-option has a lot to do with a running back's success. Several times Allar mis-read the UCLA D and handed off to Allen right into a wall of tacklers. I think sometimes Allar locks into what he's going to do because he can't make decisions fast enough. It's just going to be a limitation with him.

Anyway, Singleton is such a much better back than two years ago and I think a lot of the ways he's better is he's learned to do a lot of the stuff that Allen does. Singleton had that incredible play against Illinois where he wrecked the DE on a chip block, caught a not-great pass and then ran over a safety for the first down. That was just a big time running back play. (They ran the same play yesterday and Martin missed the chip block which led directly to Allar getting sacked)
Maney solid points-BUT no way Bobby Engram ran a 4.7

I've said this before-don't worry about an RS for Martin-if he stays healthy, he won't be here for 5 yrs so it doesn't matter if he's a 4 yr sr or a Rs jr. when he leaves-he's a future NFL player.

It seems that Martin's playing time being limited by the players ahead of him, Singleton, and Allen, and before his injury Wallace, could also be impacted by his growing pains as a blocker. It just takes time for most talented RB's that didn't do it in H.S. to consistently block in the B10.

Do we have any sense on Donkoh's injury or just find out tomorrow it is "long term"? The local media guys never follow up to press him on specifics for fear of being blackballed by Franklin. What a racket.

To be fair, they could ask 500 follow up questions and we still wouldn't know. Asking is a waste of time unfortunately

It would be interesting to know what his weight should be to be successful in the B1G at 6’8” per our coaching staff. He is listed at 308, which decreased since late spring when he reportedly was up to the low 320s. I would think at least 325 is more ideal.

Saving redshirts these days is dumb. If a player can contribute then play him now. They will not be here five years.

They won't be here in 3 these days. Play them if they can contribute.

I never heard what happened but he did return which is great
Good time for a bye week--hopefully he and Singleton are good to go against Wisconsin
IMO, the Wisconsin game is more important than the OSU game, even though that game is important too. I say this because we can survive a loss to OSU and still achieve all of the goals for this team, whereas a loss to Wisconsin definitely will complicate matters. Therefore, I agree that this bye should be great.

Yeah, in this new era the Ohio State is more about "a test" rather than a must win.
We could lose to Wisconsin and survive but I don't want to test that lol

In the nfl we are starting to see more WR types playing RB.

Giants had former Iowa/Purdue WR Tyrone Tracy at RB Sunday night. They talked about his converting.
I was thinking of Deebo Samuale for the 49ers. With the proliferation of the pass the more good receivers you have on the field the better.

How good is their run game? I really think the only shot they have is they have a lot of success running the ball on us which opens up some big plays for them. Their QB has to be stellar and play the best game of his season. We would also need to be below average on offense to open up the door for them. We are favored by 7 so Vegas thinks Wisky can hang around.

I've really only watched one of their games extensively, and that was the USC game. In that game, their offense had very little time of possession. They scored a td on a long pass, and then scored another td on a short field after a turnover. However, in the second half, USC totally dominated them. I do know that one of their running backs left the team last week, but they always have running backs.

Regarding the point spread, 7 points actually is a big speard for a road night game at Camp Randall when it looks like PSU, regardless of how good it is, most likely is going to play a lot of games that still are in doubt late into the game like Illinois.

Ok a LOT of misinformation on this thread:

Donkoh did NOT re injured himself, he had his wind knocked out and returned the very next series.

Donkoh DID finish the game and was a full part of the offense during the comeback.

Donkoh, in fact was SECOND for the pff grades, and wasn't far behind Warren, actually.

Finally, Rucci graded quite well for the limited snaps he played, and the offensive line did not play poorly at all, with zero sacks in 43 attempts. The USC defense was all out trying to stop the run, D'Anton Lynn's defense played it's BEST game of the season by far. I'm seeing far too much marginalizing of that win on Saturday. That was the best 3-3 team in the nation and they played a fantastic game that would have been enough to beat anyone in the nation, and they lost.

I do think USC is a good team. Even though I do not care for them, never have, it would be good to see them run the table and beat Notre Dump.

Regardless of their record, USC's talent will be the second best that we face this season after OSU, and they probably have the third best skill position talent after OSU and Oregon in this conference.

It DOES need mentioned though, that Donkoh is basically playing the NFL style now, playing hurt. Not "injured", but yeah, hurt. The bye week should help a bit. Will he be 100? Probably not, but he might be able to get up to 80 or 90 percent. Fingers crossed.
