I guess there's still a spot open for Huff's replacement. Is Franklin waiting for someone?

Re-hired Tyler Bowen as TE coach and promoted Phil Galiano (from GA) to special teams/ Asst. DL. -- so all nine spots for 2017 filled. NCAA does not allow Tenth coach to be hired yet -- after bowl season the new coach will be announced (for all teams).

wait a minute here. CJF promoted a GA? To full time coach?? Larry Ellison on here said I was full of BS of even suggesting that.

Hmmm but what do I know.

Yeah, what do you know?:) Galiano was a consultant, not a GA.

Dude has no coaching experience. This is an important hire so I would think that he will go with someone with more experience as a player and a coach.

On the other hand, it would be rather ironic that a FB would be coaching the RBs in PSU's system.

That's what I thought but I was responding to the other poster that said GA. Now with all of that, my response was along the lines I thought CJF would hire a GA or one of those other guys, i.e. Consultants , HS liaison, recruiting Coordinator etc,but even with that Larry Ellison said I was full of BS.
Right now a GA is coaching the RBs for the bowl game. Question ,once the 10th comes available, does he keep the job???

Well, you should know better than to accept what other posters state as fact without double-checking it.:)

I could see Coach Franklin giving the job to a GA, or to E J Barthel, or looking for someone who has more experience.

I've been thinking about former PSU TB, Gary Brown the running backs coach of the Dallas Cowboys.I often wonder if he would like to coach major college over the NFL. The cowboy's backs have done well since he's been coaching there

Why Gary Brown... Just because he played at Penn State?

No, creamery freak is correct, Brown has a good track record as an RB coach in the NFL. Question is the money. Normally, pay is higher in the NFL, but that's not a given.

And the Cowboys pay a couple of their other assistants well. Their OC (Linehan) and DC (Marinelli) each make $2 million +/year. Couldn't find Gary Brown's salary.

Bowen was the OL coach UMD the past year so it wasn't a promotion for him.

Unless it’s a promotion to OC why would you ever leave Cowboys for PSU for same job as position coach...?

1. Jerry is very loyal. To a fault.
2. Jason Garrett may be looking for work in a few weeks, however see #1.
3. No way is pay going to be a determining factor if it comes down to Jerry vs. Sandy/Franklin. Jerry could and would outspend them without giving it a second of thought.
4. Gary's done a nice job in Dallas and I can't imagine it would be a career advancement to take a lateral position at the college level. Of course if #2 becomes a factor then maybe...

All true, but ya' never know. I would be very pleased if somehow it could happen, but it probably won't.

How about Kijana? He's in State College for most games anyway so he might as well get paid for it. ;-)

One hour from his home would be a reason but I agree he has a great job now.

You think after being away for so many years, so many years living in NFL cities .... that Gary brown still calls Williamsport "home". My guess is that after several years coaching the Cowboys, Brown is pretty well settled into the Dallas area and/or settled into living around a bigger city.

Plus, even if Brown still has family in the area, he's making enough money to afford plane tickets to visit them whenever he wants.

Did Kijana graduate or ever earn a degree. This came up last year when everyone was talking about LaVar. I am pretty certain that a coach must have a 4-year degree to be eligible to coach. Not busting on Kijana ... just pointing out that before everyone always brings up ex-players .... LaVar.... Kijana.... remember, they have to have a 4-year degree.
