Coming up this weekend and usually just purchase a parking pass from a scalper but was wondering if anyone has experience parking locally and taking an Uber to the game? How much does it surge? Is there long waits? Is it even convenient?

IMHO the way to go is to park downtown, have a couple beers and ride the bus from Schlow Library to the game. The bus ride takes about 5 minutes and drops you off beside the BJC. After the game you can either ride the bus back or walk. Walking is usually faster...

Gotta be a logjam coming out of one of the downtown garages after the game. And cost of all day parking downtown?

I did last year and it was incredible -- they allowed me to be dropped off right outside the BJC and not wait in any traffic lines.

This year, no idea with the new #runyourroute bullshit, if they clamped down on that.

$20 for all day parking at the "Dorito" church...plus it doesn't go in the Universities pockets. Easy in and easy out after the game is over. Or you could park for free down over the hill at Easterly Parkway Elementary school and take a bus up to the stadium. There's a bus stop right next to the school.

I parked in the garage on Fraser Street for this past weekend's game. Not a car in front of me to get out and no traffic on Fraser. A little traffic on College Ave to get to Atherton but really nothing. No comparison with trying to get out of the stadium lots. And that was for a night game, when everyone is leaving at the same time. Would imagine it would be even easier for a noon start.

And the Fraser Street lot charges $2.50 an hour or a max of $32.00. So you could park from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm and pay $25.00. I think that's a pretty good deal.

Full disclosure, it is a pretty hefty walk to the stadium, although it's downhill at the end of the walk back to the garage.

Yup, parked at the church last weekend. It was great. They also let you use their bathroom, which is a huge added value.

I've never Ubered in but the Uber drop off is shown on the map below. It depends upon how much you're willing/able to walk since the drop off isn't by the BJC.

Is that the church at the corner of Beaver and Garner?

Never uber'd there, but two of my buddies uber'd from State College back to Harrisburg after a game (more than likely blacked out). Only cost them $370, lol.

Interesting idea. Park for free, say in Bellefonte or Port Matilda, then Uber both ways. Might be cheaper and more convenient.

Lol no, it's gonna be like $200 from bellefonte. It's $45 to get from beaver stadium to the north atherton mcdonalds after games.

Wow! This is a bit surprising. Sounds like price gouging to me.

This sounds like a great business opportunity for a student with a car. Ferry fans from a peripheral parking area to the stadium for say $30 a pop. Take two or 3 at a time and do maybe 15 total per game. Lots of beer money for the downtown bars.

We were going to Uber 3 years ago from downtown. 4 hours before game it was $7.50. We ate and were going to Uber to the stadium. It surged to $33.50, we decided to walk.

It was a 6x surge last time pitt was in town. That was when atherton was backed up to chic fil a. It was over $100 to go 2 miles down to park avenue.

Homecoming weekend a few years back me and some friends had a hotel room east of campus on 26. On Friday night to get from there to say the SBS area was ~$30. Surge pricing that entire weekend took a decent chunk of change.

Walking may just be quicker from downtown this weekend given that all cars are going to arrive within a 4 hour window. Saw some Uber drivers doing some crazy stuff this weekend, dangerous stuff (passing in places they should not), trying to drive on areas that are not meant for vehicles (heard when they were stopped their excuse was the riders were egging him on and told him the quicker and closer he got them, the bigger his tip would be. Oh and a student was hit by an Uber driver on Bigler and the student was hurt pretty good (they had to helo her out). Some of the Uber and Lyft drivers should be banned for the way they drive, going to kill someone.

The problem is you can't get close enough to the stadium. Why pay $30 for a ride when you can get a shuttle for as little as $4 from many lots around town that can drop you off closer to the stadium then even Uber drivers can.

My daughter lives in The View at Toftrees. After the Idaho game her and her roommates checked what uber would charge from the stadium to the View and it was $40. They said screw it and started walking home via Fox Hollow. Once they got 1/4 mile down Fox Hollow one of the girls decided to check Uber again and they was quoted $4. Lazy butts then waited there for uber to show up.

Because those options aren’t well advertised to the demographic that uses uber/lyft. If they wanted more people to use the shuttles they could modernize a bit by using an app and gps locator to show how close the next bus is, time to destination etc. But beyond all that depending on where the shuttle locations are people may have to uber to those as well, so why would they uber and then wait for a shuttle?

Just tossing out ideas as I’ve never uber’d or taken a shuttle to the stadium so my experience is zero.

If I didn’t have a permit in advance and didn’t care about tailgating, I’d get there before one way traffic went into effect and park at the East Deck for $25.

Relatively easy to get in and out, and closer than the $60 lots.

The CATA shuttle does have an app called My Stop that you can view the running shuttles to Downtown and South Atherton, where the buses are and even how many people are on them. You can also purchase an all day pass with another app called Token Transit instead of having to pay cash.

I found all of this out when trying to figure out where to park prior to Buffalo if the downtown garages were full around 5. But we snagged Fraser with 12 spaces left.

Any idea when they do the 1 way traffic. Expecting to be there by 9am and have a tailgate to go to so doesn't matter where I park.

This week it is 8:30 am. For later games times it is 4 hours prior to kick-off according to their website.

For The OSU game in 2016, I dropped the car off in the lots at our tailgate area very early. Had my brother In law follow me, pick me up and go back to the house. Showered, got ready and We took Uber back to the tailgate around 11AM. Worked out perfect (our wives were with us, so the idea of going to the stadium at 8 am didn’t appeal all that much to them)

You could have taken the CATA game shuttle that leaves from Beaver and Allen just a block away from the garage.

Ok. Thanks for the heads up. I'll definitely park there again so I'll remember that.
