Apple has a big release today

I switched on my last phone from Apple to Android. I have never looked back. Apple has almost no innovation anymore. Android to me is far out in front of them. Google hasn't come into the cell phone market to play 2nd fiddle. That camera on the Pixel is very nice. Apple just raked me over the coals constantly for more money. I just got so sick of the money grab.

Note: For Face Time myself(Android) and friends/family who have iPhones we all just use What'sApp. They have a feature that allows any users to connect easily and talked via video face to face. Exactly like using Face Time.
what technology is superior?

Which version of the Pixel are you using? I honestly am up in the air on which phone to get next as my 6s is getting long in the tooth at this point. I don't want to pay $1k+ for another iPhone so I was looking at the Pixel 3, but then I heard the phone was having issues with the volume cutting out while making calls. After having several Samsung pieces of electronics die on us my wife refuses to let that brand in our house so it's down to the iPhone or Pixel for me.

The main reason Apple doesn't allow FaceTime on Android is because Android doesn't meet Apple's strict security standards. This is same reason there is no iMessage on Android.

Also those saying Apple doesn't innovate anymore are completely wrong. Apple have consistently taken relatively early tech and perfected it for the consumer. They were not the first smart phone, tablet, thin laptop, and so on. But they make the best user experience on almost any devices. If you think innovation is only being the first then yes you are correct but as history has shown time and time again, being first to market usually means you won't be best. Apple is not interested at being first just being the best.

Totally disagree. Apple was super late to the streaming music game and now has more paid subscribers than any other platform (to the tune of about 50mm). Apple doesn't fail very often.

Apple Music has 50 million subscribers (counting free trial subscriptions), while Spotify is closing in on 100 million. Amazon Music is probably pretty close to Apple but no one knows for sure because Amazon won't report numbers.

I'm not anti-Apple. In fact Apple is the only one of the giants that has always understood security and privacy -- and that has been a good business strategy. They wouldn't sell data to Cambridge Analytica to sabotage American democracy, they wouldn't let the FBI snoop on our phones, they wouldn't let Putin's minions use their platforms -- so good for them.

I also think Apple understands customer support. Their cheap battery replacement program last year was a really decent thing to do, and the new iOS runs so well on older, slower phones that it has cost Apple some upgrades -- again, a very decent thing to do.

I just don't think they've ever really understood the content business or the software business. They're not good at any business that requires partnership and collaboration. Heck, they had to be dragged kicking and screaming into allowing third party apps for the iPhone -- they were the last to see that it would be a great business for them.

Here's a link to the data. Subscriptions are for the U.S.

don't disagree...but it is what it is. if you think Google is a panacea of openness and fairness, on that I can't agree.

Agree completely about google and their services, but a pure android platform is quite secure. Android and google are not the same thing, although google does put a lot of support into maintaining android.

Noted. I'm sorry I don't use what you prefer. I'll get on that.

I don't advocate a preference for anyone, and sorry if it came across that way. I'm just amused at some of the things I read people say about apple products.

The battery exchange program had nothing to do with being nice. They got caught slowing down their customers' phones in an attempt to get them to buy new ones before they needed to. How many people who erroneously bought new phones thinking their old was dying received anything?

google is the company...android is the operating system google makes available for handsets. then, the handset distributor can add another layer on top of it.

This isn’t accurate at all. Why would they do that? Would you buy another phone from a company that has slow phones with crap batteries? They actually lowered performance to increase battery life. What you said was pure rumor and bad business. iOS 12 actually increased performance on older devices.

How old is your son? It sounds like his browsing habits may be in need of some rehabilitation if he was able to brick a laptop within a year of purchase. Did you have Windows Defender running? Pop-up blocker? 3rd party anti-virus?

only 11 years old. and i know he doesn't go on stuff, pretty much 99% of the time playing fortnite.

Not disputing your 99% figure but you may want to install a keylogger or some other tracking software to see what he’s doing the other 1% of the time. He’s got to be visiting sites with malware and/or downloading things that contain malicious code.

Read what you just wrote. They actually had the government coming after them on that one.

Well check out spotify. My personal favorite.
My son's have their phones connect to their car via bluetooth and use voice commands in Spotify to play their playlists. They NEVER listen to the radio or XM. I am sure this is main stream but noticed this the other day. They are not sure why they have to buy a radio in a car or why people subscribe to XM. They want a car with bluetooth speakers and that's it.
