Arnold or Barr

I prefer recruits with longer frames in high school. The short, stocky types scream of guys who peaked early. I believe Arnold fits the latter. Frankly, it’s why I’m not high on the Gibson boys either. Before I get flamed, I’m not saying those kinds won’t succeed. I just don’t see high end NCAA results from those types very often anymore.

What weight class will Barr be? Won’t he be blocked for quite awhile unless Cael gets creative.

Danger rule and 4 point nearfall have made this more true. Leverage.

The Retherford fella did ok for being pretty short and stocky. Hell, even Brooks and Hall aren’t longest guys out there.

I think Arnold has a ton of upside but I’ve also been waiting for a breakthrough for 2 years now. Barr is probably the better of the two right now, or at least more accomplished. I also don’t necessarily see the fit in the room for Arnold at Iowa.

I’ve seen George Constanza lift 100 lbs right over his head without even knowing it.

Id not put Zain or Brooks in the short, stocky category. Hall probably, and it’s probably why he had trouble with Zahid.
Yeah but how many Zahids are there? Hall won his freshman year, only lost in the finals the next 2 years (to Zahid) and was the 1 seed his final year. That's pretty good results no? That being said, Hall was another level as a recruit, like can't miss prodigy level so your point stands.

Interesting thought experiment: what if an NFL Combine type event were held ever year, say at Fargo, S32, etc. Gather athletic measurables for recruits, say during their SR offseason/year.

(Obviously the exact data sets would need to be adjusted -- 40 dash is irrelevant, for example.)

Then create the spiderweb charts.

After a few years and with NCAA results, there would be comparables at every weight.

Doubt this would happen and not necessarily advocating, just think it would be interesting.

Long arms with short legs and long torso would be my first pick of body shape if designing a wrestler. There are certainly many success stories of guys that had none of these attributes. The race isn't always to the swiftest but it is sure as hell how you need to bet.

Mark Hall at 165 would’ve been a completely different level imo. I know there were several factors at play, but I think it’s fair to say Hall was at his peak in high school winning World titles.

The Robles theory might be politically incorrect, but I kinda agree with it. Kinda.

Wouldn't you have to add in their parents ht/wt?:p

athleticism would be a constant but other aspects can change a lot in college as I imagine there is more height and mass growth at 18 vs 23.

putting aside the projection because that’s subjective, i’m pretty sure arnold is the more accomplished. they both won fargo but arnold has been winning on the national level his whole career. part of that is arm’s schedule so he’s had more opportunities, but he’s been a bigger name for longer.

Rumor has it (Tom) Arnold was quite the scrapper in high school. I say Arnold. Plus (Roseanne) Barr probably has trouble making weight, do there's that to consider as well.
Tom Arnold is from Iowa.

Arnold in the Iowa room Vs Barr in the Penn State room? How many titles has TNT won in the last decade at 165, 174, 184? Now how about Cael ? There’s your answer. Enough said

When I think of short legs, Kolat and Pletcher come to mind. Snatch single legs were useless on them.
