Arnold or Barr

Interesting thought experiment: what if an NFL Combine type event were held ever year, say at Fargo, S32, etc. Gather athletic measurables for recruits, say during their SR offseason/year.

(Obviously the exact data sets would need to be adjusted -- 40 dash is irrelevant, for example.)

Then create the spiderweb charts.

After a few years and with NCAA results, there would be comparables at every weight.

Doubt this would happen and not necessarily advocating, just think it would be interesting.
I’d just love for wrestling to start saying the wrestlers height for christ sake. Like damn near every other sport in the world. I don’t see it happening tho because wrestlers are so short it’s honestly shocking lol. Not sure any champ from last year is over six foot. Ferrari looked the tallest tho lol.

The Retherford fella did ok for being pretty short and stocky. Hell, even Brooks and Hall aren’t longest guys out there.
Short and stocky is relative. Molinaro is short and stocky compared to most wrestlers. Compared to Zain and Hall are short and stocky compared to the average citizen, but not the average wrestler.

Pantaleo was always shorter after wrestling against Zain. As a matter of fact, most guys were shorter after wrestling with Zain!

The Robles theory might be politically incorrect, but I kinda agree with it. Kinda.
i do too, but not in the lazy “it was unfair” way. he adapted a style to his body, the same way a long legged guy might be a leg rider, and through years of hard work became unbeatable. he made his body an advantage.

I can get down with this take. It became an advantage because Robles worked hard to make it an advantage. People forget he wasn't a juggernaut his entire career.

Robles wasn't a theory, it was me joking about him being an extreme example of the long torso/long arms/short legs wrestler.

Agreed with the substance of this. Robles busted his ass for well over a decade to adjust his technique to his reality, succeeded, and should be applauded for it.

And not to be crass about it, but Robles isn't nearly the first wrestler without all 4 limbs fully intact, but he's the only one I'm aware of to win an NCAA D1 title.

the thing that always gets overlooked with him is the way he moved in neutral. the tilts were impressive, but it was unreal how he was able to move with his one leg tucked underneath him. go try it for yourself in the living room. the core strength and balance it must have taken to do that is unimaginable to me.

Sure helped with the pull-ups too.

Can humbly I request that people who want to TELL BAD JOKES (including about Mineo) start a new thread ala COVID. I purposely don't READ WINO’S POSTS to stay away from the infighting and toxcity, people who really want to follow it can do it there in spades.

Also how good he was on bottom, especially given his condition in a sport where the refs allowed pure riding.

I mean, he was never going to be David Taylor or Zain Retherford on bottom, but by his senior year he was overqualified to wrestle in Columbus.

Ok, I’m going to go to a questionable place for a moment. I dated a woman for a long time, and she came from a line of folks not known for their long legs; she had short femurs. In the “referee’s position” certain moves were damned near impossible without nearly dislocating a hip.

If she easily broke a hip, shouldn't she wrestle for Iowa?

Well… the moment Josh came on board, maybe the “Barr“ was set to high for Gabe.

I feel like Arnold is going to get bigger. He strikes as 194 sooner than later. Barr seems like he is gonna stay grounded around where his weight is now. I’m not thinking they will be in same weight class two years from now

I think the opposite. Arnold is super short and stocky while Barr is super lanky. Barr definitely has the frame to go up in weight similar to Nickal. I would be surprised if Arnold did
