There is no way i would have Spencer wrestling this year....Those injuries always seem healed but there really not...Oh well not my call...Just hate to see him take a chance of messing up his first year with us being hurt....

So what you're really saying -- and have been saying since the injury was announced -- is that you know more about his condition than his surgeon: med school professor, Steelers' team physician, past president of the NFL physicians' society .. and former PSU football player under Joe. You might have heard of the doctor's brother, defensive coordinator at UCLA.

And you have better judgment than his parents: his mother being a former Olympian and his father a former Olympic coach.

Really, just give it up. They know what they're doing, and they aren't taking any unnecessary risks.

I trust the doctors but for his sake I hope he's overly cautious in rehab and a comeback here.

My guess is he could go out with sling and all and still win easy w/o any re injury possibility's. Keep in mind how fun it is to win a state title for your school. Most of his fellow high school students have no idea how important of a tournament he won this summer. Yes I'm sure they are aware he is really good, but still.... Nothing like doing it for a little school pride. Also Im sure he always dreamed of winning 4 state titles. I am by no means saying to take any real risk of a set back, and putting into jeopardy, what, by all accounts looks to be one of the brightest stars the world of wrestling has seen in sometime

maybe i'm overly cautious, but anytime you're on the mat, you're subjected to the possiblity of injury, especially shoulders & knees. given the bright future, i wouldn't risk it. jmo.

Wow, a lot of medical folks on this thread. I am not one of them. However, he says he won't go unless he gets the green light at 100%. This isn't Tony Romo, who they put out there at some risk because they felt it was worth the potential reward. FAIL there, but the downside is he rehabs for 2016. If they waited 2-3 more weeks their season was lost. If Romo agreed it was a good risk.

I understand the concern, but isn't the reality that there is a potential for re-injury, regardless of when he hits the mat? There is always that concern. It could happen this spring, or next spring. Maybe it is because we watched the Altons struggle with recurring injury, but it may always be a concern for Lee moving forward. If he is cleared medically tomorrow (exaggeration) to be 100%, why shouldn't he go?

we all just hope he doesn't get hurt. anytime an athlete first returns from a serious injury, there is a degree of nervousness at first, even in the fans. I was watching the Cowboy game with a close friend, and he winced every hit Romo took. until the last one. Then he cringed.
I'm sure Lee won't come back until he feels that he is ready, and then the shoulder will be tested. Best of luck and health to him in his rehab and recovery and return.

the space between surgery and participation would seem to lessen the reoccurrence possibilities, but there are no guarantees. it could certainly happen again. ultimately, it's up to the family.
