Haha, that Corey Costelloe article ended up being mostly about him, but I dug it. Especially the closing line:
I guess my personal highlight of the week was mentioning I had no more than a “junior varsity wrestling background” during our telecast and later finding out it was a hit among the viewers as well. While many people like to brag about their credentials, I prefer to highlight the lack of my own sometimes. I guess humility goes a long way during a week to remember.

Just like the majority of the time...you were right, Tom. Thanks for directing me to that article; it was terrific!

Might not be in the best form to mention this, but if Tom zaps it, it's cool, if it stays, even better.

In the spirit of this post, I also have a Daily Wrestling E-Mail newsletter that ships out the previous days news and delivers it to your inbox around 8 a.m. Eastern. It's curated, so it's not just a big feed of unfiltered stuff. I look at these and tag them into the e-mail. Sometimes I don't get "every" story related to say, Penn State, but I find the ones with the meat and fill them in. If you want a worldwide (more than national) digest of the links to hit to read about wrestling, you may be interested in signing up for free at http://www.mattalkonline.com/news

I don't want to come off as spammish, but this thread is kind of a micro version of what I've got for the entire sport's fanbase. Will edit and remove if necessary.

Thanks Jason. I just signed up.

Is that the guy who was announcing for the Bakersfield dual? If so, I doubt he ever wrestled based on the lack of wrestling knowledge he displayed. He kept saying the Bakersfield wrestler that was on the bottom was close to getting back points whenever they got turned. It was entertaining so I will give him that.

Yes, but he was very honest and clearly did wrestle--Junior Varsity. I listened to him for half, then to Byers & Nevills for half, but he didn't suck. And given the different levels of quality we've encountered during off the beaten path broadcasts, I know our bar is low, but I'm cool with giving credit where credit is due. Especially when he's light-hearted & candid about his lack of experience:

"I was nervous knowing the majority of those watching were Penn State fans who were far-more educated in the sport of college wrestling than I. Thankfully, message board posts and tweets came in from Penn State fans complimenting me on the broadcast. One of my favorites came from a gentleman who was comparing me to the last announcer he heard when the Nittany Lions visited Virginia Tech; he said “pretty sad when CSU Bakersfield has a better announcer than Virginia Tech.” Slightly backhanded but I’ll take it.

Sounds like the guy is a Jack of all media Trades for CSUB and pitched in to support the broadcast. He did a far better job, as did CSUB, than many FAR better funded Big 10 schools at giving the sport its due. The Big 10 has several members of College Wrestling royalty, but you wouldn't know it due to the times major duals get shunted aside to backup channels in favor of showing the 1974 Michigan-Ohio state game for the 9748th time.

Oh, come on., that's not fair.

It was the 1973 Michigan-Ohio State game.

Somebody ought to send him the tape of those two guys doing I believe the Nebraska match from a few years ago. That was an all time classic. I wish it were linked to the top of this board, I would love to hear it again

I have that dual saved on my DVR and listen to it every once in a while. Quite entertaining.
