With one game left in the season… it appears that we would play ASU, Indiana or SMU.

I'd rather play SMU; they have a good record but also by any measure should've lost at Duke about a month ago. ASU probably would be affected by the cold, but they have a great running game that travels well. The only reason why I wouldn't want to play IU is because I'd like to see us play a different team rather than a regular Big 10 opponent, but they might be the easist out of those three.
There are 100 different websites that compare teams so I just picked one randomly and looked at the matchups on sharpcollegefootball. These are the chances of winning at a neutral site:
47% vs Indiana
61% vs SMU
83% vs ASU
I know we would be home and not neutral but I didn't feel like changing that setting, just wanted to see the relative comparison.
I don't know much about SMU or ASU but I do know Indiana is a good team with a good coach. I'm guessing that they would have a good game plan against us and would be well prepared. I'm happy with any if those 3 but I'd prefer SMU or ASU.

I just don’t want to play Indiana, as I’d rather play somebody new.
If we would play ASU, they would have the best running back that we would've played; that guy is a monster.
Miami Bama USCe and even Tennessee are still possibilities as well. Hell so is Boise probably.

That's the way I look at it too. My guess is that we aren't going to win this tournament, so we might as well have some fun as long as we last by playing a different team or two.
He's good but I don't think he's that much better than the Washington, USC, or BG backs. The SMU RB is also pretty good stats-wise. The RB from ASU averages 5.4 yards per carry and if you look at their schedule they're not exactly playing the '85 Bears.
The thing about SMU is that they are the prototypical Southern speed team that plays on turf; I sincerely doubt that they would be the same explosive team on a grass field in cold conditions. God, they had five or six turnovers at Duke and definitely should've lost that game, and Duke's offense is not good.

I don't really care. I honestly think the best of those teams is Indiana in terms of competitiveness in our weather. Every game will be competitive so don't mean to diminish any of those teams but feel Indy has the best chance of matching up physically.
SMU gives up a lot of points and scores a lot. They also have a game to play Dec. 6th for their championship game.

ASU, SMU then Indiana. I think we are stronger than both on the LOS. Not sure about Indiana.
I watch ASU and SMU play twice this year and the both can move the ball but we have played better defensive teams this year.
Interestingly I'm more concerned about our D after the Manny game. I'm guessing with a week off and a good game plan I'll feel more confident.

i watched a couple of recap videos from Minny and our OL didn't play well in terms of decision making. By that I mean that they missed a lot of assignments and defenders had a lot of free shots. I don't know why. In the second half, I bet that the injury to our LT took a toll even though CJF said that Rucci played well. the feeling I got was that this is an easy fix.
Indiana would be a tough out. I don't want to play them plus as mentioned they are a B10 school. Not sure how we would ever play ASU since they seem to be a 12 seed? I like us playing SMU in a 6 vs 11 game then getting Miami in the quarters. Problem with that scenario is a 3 loss Bama may jump a 2 loss ccg loser SMU so we ultimately get Bama in the 6 vs 11.
I'm surprised people still see Indiana as a strong team after the Ohio State. I think Minnesota Wisconsin and USC are comparable.
Special teams gaffes turned that game. We wouldn't be so lucky. Their coach is still one of the best. We would win because Rourke is not mobile enough but he would burn our back 7 a few times.
I really don't think we'll be matched up with Indiana. It is so easy for the Committee to tweak the ranking/seeds to avoid inter-conference matchups like that. There's little reason not to move the teams seeded #9-12 up or down one spot to get more interesting game.
As for opponents, I'd much prefer SMU or ASU (or whomever wins the Big 12) over facing Indiana anyway. Miami-FL is another potential opponent. I'd definitely prefer any of them over one of the 3 loss SEC teams.

So we disagree completely. That game was all Ohio State. Indiana had negative yards after the first drive until the game was over. Ohio State easily could have won that game by 50 without their own self inflicted errors
I'm also confused by this. Why would they try to avoid Penn State-Indiana. It's not even a rematch. Indiana shouldn't move up to avoid that hurting a better team.
Because the CFP is all about TV and they know that conference matchups of teams that have played all the time are going to get fewer viewers than more interesting matchups of teams from different conferences and parts of the country. Same reason they don't pair up conference teams in the first weekend of the NCAA hoops tourney.
47% vs Indiana??? We played duhO$U way tighter than Indiana did - frankly, if we got half the calls Indiana got on duhO$U's Defensive Secondary, we probably win the duhO$U game.
I don't think that's true. I think Penn State-Indiana would get great ratings. Is ND-Indiana any different? Is Penn State vs SMU or Arizona State?
Ratings aren't why they don't pair up teams for March Madnes...it because sometimes they've played 3 times PLUS they rarely change their seeding...it bumps to a different bracket which has why less overall impact

Looks like we'd be 9.5 point favorites against Indiana and I think that line would move up. I'm taking us giving 9.5 in about a tenth of a second.
I don't want to play Indiana because they are a Big Ten team and I'd like to see another opponent at Beaver Stadium, but they don't scare me. They got smoked by Ohio State and it could have been worse. I still don't understand why OSU ran the ball so much. They had guys wide open all over the place.
I'm not sure they could beat USC if they played them in Cali right now.

Running these 3 teams on NCAAgamesim playing at PSU gives these average scores:
PSU 29.4 - IU 24.5
PSU 41.2 - SMU 16.6
PSU 31.6 - ASU 14.9

Give me ASU, then Indiana then SMU. But i think playing at home we beat any of them.

Urban was on Cowherd's show earlier this week, and he said that in pregame warmups, he could see that there was a big talent discrepancy between IU and OSU. While it wouldn't as great, there still would be a decent talent discrepancy between IU and PSU.
Right. Our last 4 home games we scored 21, 27, 13, and 35 and Indiana is better than 3 of those teams.
I'd be confident against Miami if we played them at home. Ward hasn't been as great as the season has progressed, and their defense is not good.
