Brett Bielma is as big as a damn whale. All jesting aside, he is morbidly obese and must find a way to drop 100 lbs at a minimum. Even if it means bariatric surgery, he has to do something to stay on this side of the lawn.

On another note, I wish the IL game had had a different outcome.

There are a surprising number of coaches (mainly in CFB/NFL, but also in other sports) who are quite obese. It is shocking to me that elite athletes would listen to their guidance. I guess it is normalized, but my though every time they talked would be "why should I listen to you, you big fat f*ck".

I thought the same about Heupel @ UT
...from athletic QB to not so much. Not quite BB but maybe BB Jr.

To not be a hypocrite I'm 6'2" and carrying 35 or so extra pounds right now...it is tiring (pun intended). Part of these guys job is to be at the gym...whats the excuse?

For a New Years clense I did clean up the basement so that the weight bench is accessible and not being used as a shelf. Took 3 carloads of stuff we were "saving" to a local mission to get to it.

I know that I can lose 20 if I give up beer for awhile and actually use the equipment. We'll see...

It's the stress and modern American diet, which is if not the worst in the world certainly a heavyweight contender for the title. Contrary to popular belief pizza, hamburgers and tacos aren't healthy choices and to honest with ourselves most of the salads at restaurants have more calories than the burger and fries on the menu.
We live in a society that regards eating as a hobby, not a means for nutrition.
Then we ask ourselves why half the population is over weight and over half the population develops a chronic disease in their lifetime.... All while profitizing the means of correction in health care.
It's a deadly cocktail.

Noticed that when they played Wisconsin this year. It was kind of shocking how much extra weight he was carrying, in his face, mid abdominal, everywhere.

Why do you care?

Hate to tell you but when it’s your time it’s your time.

Do you want to run that bit about it being "your time" past Damar Hamlin?

Maybe I care because obesity is endemic in this country and an enormous cost to the healthcare system, as a general matter, and Bielma is a poster child for America's losing war on weight.

Yes. If it is the thing caused by a hit to the chest that is so rare that would be the only explanation.
Let people live how they want to live as you ride around in your car alone with your mask on.

I always thought that over weight coaches set a bad example for their players. But these guys spend incredible hours in the film room…studying the next opponent…..studying their own film to fix mistakes and analyze who and what works……studying college kids to see who to draft……studying players on practice squads and cut lists to see who they can pick up. Probably drink coffee by the gallon ……or Red Bull or other caffeine drinks with tons of sugar…..and constantly munch on junk food. Bad diet plus too much butt time.

Part of the reason for this might be

1. Football coaches are more likely to be former football players.

2. Football players have bigger builds that are more prone to putting on weight when they get older, as opposed to non-football players.

Just a theory.

Do you go to a doctor? Take any medications? Wear your seatbelt. All of these are useless if “when it’s your time it’s your time”.
Good point. You obviously minimize the chances but have you ever know anyone that went to the doctor and still passed? How about anyone taking medication and still passed? Seat belt and yet never died?

I can assure you that you alter "your time" if you eat eggs and bacon every morning, have a large soda and Italian hoagie with small bag of chips at lunch and have a nice 1/4 lb burger and fries for dinner.
You could also alter "your time" by having a fresh fruit smoothie with a whole grain bread and peanut butter or avocado for breakfast then a real salad with possibly grilled chicken or maybe a salad with hummus and pita or veggies and then a nice cut of salmon over quinoa with some roasted cauliflower and chick peas on the side.
The interesting thing is the later is actually more delicious and will make you less hungry because it actually feeds the body the nutrients it needs as opposed to just filling up your belly until you are full.

I obviously said that same thing.

My point is this, why do others worry so damn much about what others do or what others say or how others act? If BB is big, so be it. It doesn’t matter a damn for anyone on this board except for people that think they can somehow inject their thoughts on others.

TL takes hydroxychloroquine, chloroquine, azithromycin, and remdesivir, as encouraged by a public figure popular in large parts of TX. He wanted to make sure that COVID wasn't going to be his time. Gargles with bleach too.

I think the point I'm trying to make is those old clichés are pretty much all bullshit. They came at times when people didn't know anything. The fact they still hang around in certain circles doesn't do anyone any good no matter if they're a part of your life on not. Doctors were pitching cigarettes in the 1950's. Doctors were disproportionately smarter than the population in that era as well, a time when a large portion of the population was not college educated and mass communication was nearly non existent.

Not everyone thinks the later is more delicious--that's an opinion. I'm all for the smoothies, grilled chicken, healthy salads and salmon but I'm not eating avocado (can't stand the texture) or quinoa (disgusting). People, in general, should eat more healthy but pretending eggs, bacon, italian hoagies, chips and burgers aren't as delicious is simply false. The truth is that it's about moderation and the reason a lot of these guys are as heavy as they are is due to the hours and convenience of unhealthy food.

Honestly, now I want a good italian hoagie lol

Eat an unseasoned or uncooked burger and get back to me. Or maybe salami for that hoagie that isn't cured. Meat isn't very good without plant based seasonings, dips and marinades. Go eat some grilled chicken without sauce, glaze, herb rub or marinade and let me know how delicious it is.

Next time you go to Red Robin instead of getting the Texas Killer Burger with spicy BBQ sauce, jalapeno bottle caps, pepper jack cheese, pickles, lettuce and tomato on a pretzel bun you could just get a hamburger on a bun. You know why people don't order the hamburger on the bun? Because it doesn't taste good without all the fixins.....FACT

I eat healthy all the time--basically live on grilled chicken and literally spend way too much time at the gym but pretending the other things aren't delicious is a flat out lie. If it was healthy I'd eat bacon and eggs daily.

I seriously would like to know the last time someone ate a plain unseasoned chicken breast or a plain old hamburger, no cheese, no condiments, no fixins?
Seriously, role call on that?

See now you're rambling nonsense. I have a plain burger with a couple small onions. I don't but cheese, pickles, tomatoes of ketchup on them. I also eat sandwiches (when I have them) without any condiments which people always criticize me for. I don't understand how you're trying to claim a plain hamburger isn't good--ever consider you just don't like it?

Literally all the time--my lunch is usually plain chicken with broccoli or another vegetable on the side. You realize not everyone likes condiments, right? For many they defeat the purpose of what you're eating. Like I eat steak without any sauce and usually season with only slight salt and pepper. Is this your anti-meat speech or what is happening here?

Its societal conformity, acquired taste. Whole foods are delicious that why we season (salt & pepper) and dip things in their flavor and make drinks and deserts and things based on delicious fruits.
If you eat plain meats you are in the very, very, very minority. You would have to make a special request for such at any food establishment and you still wouldn't get it because they marinate and season the meats prior to cooking anyhow, regardless of the condiments.

You realize all the healthy food you mentioned also is "seasoned" and/or "dipped" other than the smoothie by almost everyone, right? Chicken, avocado, salads...

I really don't know what point you're trying to make here. It's coming across as "meat is bad"

I'm waiting to hear about everyone's positive experiences eating meat without all the "stuff" we put on it to make it taste good? I guess I'll just have to wait.

I eat them without anything all the time. I love plain grilled chicken. Same with a burger off the grill. Anybody who asked for that other stuff on them has poor taste buds. It was never taught the right way to eat meat

Thank you--I don't know why he's acting like this is abnormal

A lot of the problem is 2 fold: A lack of moderation and unhealthy choices.

Moderation is obvious. But not easy for those "addicted" to food, or use eating as stress or depression relief.

We are generally busy as a society. Both parents work. So much easier to swing by McDonald's or throw garbage together than it is to go home after your 9-5 and construct a grilled chicken salad or other healthy options. Plus now, some foods are hard to find or outrageous in price. What isn't missing from the grocery shelves? Chips, cookies, junk food.

All you are going to get is the high and almighty liars telling you they eat all unseasoned meat and all veggies they grow in their back yard.

I ate every meat known to man and in good shape for 40+ years, I tried going plant based for a month out of curiosity and I found out the American diet was all a lie, just like the 5 food groups they used to pitch us in grade school. Not only was it all a lie that an entire economy was built on but the conditions of animals is just so deplorable, like straight up deplorable. It is what it is. I'm out and I'm out for good. I could care less what anyone eats, to each his own but what you learn when you put things down for a little it can be so much more powerful than just hunkering down on your laurels and going with it. I don't know anyone who eats plain chicken or plain burger, but maybe there are a bunch of people who do, apparently there is just in this thread. Do your thing.

So this was a "meat is bad" lecture and you're unaware a lot of people eat meat in a healthy way--gotcha. Enjoy your "plant based diet" and criticizing others that don't do the same.

I don't need the sauces to enjoy burgers or chicken. I typically use none. Absolutely no sauce on steak. But I do like seasoning, which adds 0 calories.

Burgers I can do with or without the vegetables. Again, those add minimal calories.

It goes without saying that a large swath of society just plows through, its nothing to be proud of. But the universe is much bigger than that. Much of our diets are out of convenience, which really sucks for non meat eaters like me, because when I eat outside my house I have limited choices almost everywhere, thank goodness most liquors are vegan!
You know why there are laws about filming anything inside animal farms/mills? Because they like the people asleep. The pharmaceutical industries biggest customer is food mills, not humans. Great stuff.
I'll leave you with this:
If you ate a burgers and eggs for every meal all day every day, it would be highly likely you would get ill or diseased and probably die much earlier than a human being should.
If you ate beans and bananas all day every day, you would be much, much, much more likely live a long healthy life.
Make what you will of it.
