That performance last night was jaw-dropping - he just rag-dolled a very good, physical opponent.
Your conclusion is correct. That performance last night was jaw-dropping - he just rag-dolled a very good, physical opponent.
Your conclusion is correct.
But not supported by the premise. Maylor has faced 3 ranked opponents this year -- 0-3, majored by Ethan Smith, lost 15-0 to Edmond Ruth.
4x trumps the other measures.Carter although dominant and "arguably" the best wrestler on the current team is 2 national championships (not 1) and a Hodge away from consideration as the GOAT. That's still quite a hill to climb.
The accomplishments, not to mention the bonus percentages that Ed, DT, Zain, Nolf and Bo put up, are separators in the GOAT conversation. Dominance and GOAT go hand in hand.
I could even imagine where Carter could be PSUs only 4xer and the debate will still lean away from him being considered our GOAT due to this measure.
That said, even without comparable competitive bonus stats, if he were to 5x, I think the debate ends with that achievement alone.
Then again we have hopefully 2 more years to sit back and enjoy. I will be exceedingly pleased, and savor every moment if Carter were to step up his bonus to over 80% or so. He just may.
PS - Don't tell Brooks you omitted his name. While Aaron can't be a 5xer, the only thing holding him back from future GOAT conversations are 2 more titles and more bonus as well.

After seeing enough of Dake v DT, i started valuing BPs just a little less when comparing guys.Carter although dominant and "arguably" the best wrestler on the current team is 2 national championships (not 1) and a Hodge away from consideration as the GOAT. That's still quite a hill to climb.

No doubt Carter continues to improve, which is a scary proposition for the rest of the field, and fun for all of us.All except for one thing - you aren't considering the fact that Starrocci is still getting better - pretty staggering considering how good he was as a freshman and a sophomore (winning NCs both years), but true. Starrocci was more dominant as a Sophomore than he was as a Freshman and he is radically more dominant this year than last. I disagree with your comparisons - the correct comparison is other wrestler's FR year to Starrocci's FR year, other wrestler's Sophomore year to Starrocci's Sophmore year.... other PSU wrestler's 3rd year of eligibility to this year for Carter.....
I said, to this point of his career, Carter is on track to be the GOAT PSU wrestler - I stand by this statement. Yes, you can say Brooks can match him in terms of NCs to this point, but Starrocci is separating himself in how dominant he is becoming relative to his competition.
I am not taking anyone over Nickal at either 184 or 197!He would beat all comers! All except for one thing - you aren't considering the fact that Starrocci is still getting better - pretty staggering considering how good he was as a freshman and a sophomore (winning NCs both years), but true.
