B1G news

This is something I want Iowa fans to explain to me. What is going on with their 174/184 guys.

Specifically, why is their best 184lb guy (Count Dracula) cutting down to 174, to fill in for Kemerer at some duals with foregone conclusions, as opposed to filling out at 184? They will get very few if any points from their current 184 guys at NCAAs, so unless there's something going on with Kemerer, it makes little sense for ol' Nosferatu to be doing that.
When was it decided that Fang was the best option at 184, or is AA out for the year?

Abe Assad appears to be #3 on the depth chart these days. Particularly after he lost to an unknown high school kid at the Luther Open.

i don’t think anybody thinks nelson brands is the best 184, especially not coming into the season. he can’t keep his weight over 180. if he could fill out at 184, he would have done so already. need to remember that he came in projected at 157/165. he’s proven over 2 years that he’s not scoring points at nationals. assad might not be the answer, but has more upside. wilson was given some runway because he made the u23 team and assad got beat at the open. he was a huge unknown because he hasn’t competed much the last 3 years due to injury so they didn’t really know what they had. i would expect to see assad get a shot now. if that doesn’t go well they could always give nelson a shot at 184 the second half of the season when kem returns. he’s not cutting much to make 174 as it is so it’s not like his size will suffer

Hawk fans will continue to claim Assad is battling injuries like they did all of last year and not face the possibility that both Wilson and baby Brands are just better.
he’s said publicly he was hurt last year. doesn’t mean he’s better than those 2, but stick to the facts as hard as that is for you sometimes lol

You and I discussed Assad this summer over on HR. Everyone was angry with me there because I told them to slow their roll while penciling in Assad as an AA. I’ll tell you now what I told you then, a kid losing his love for the sport doesn’t just magically fix itself. At this level you need to be all in.

lol no everybody was mad at you because you said he didn’t like the sport and wanted to quit. it’s a strange fixation you have and in poor taste.

Injury was not keeping him from starting last year but you believe what you want. And yeah, I do stick to facts. Unlike your crew over on HR. When I tried to tell you all Teasdale slipped and wasn’t part of team anymore you all laughed and told me you saw him matside on TV. I was sticking to the facts because while you all saw him at Bigs on TV, I saw him in Western Pa. What else, oh when I tried telling you Kem was struggling with decision to come back, again you all laughed at me and told me I’m crazy. Seems Willie alluded to this very thing on his show a couple weeks ago. You yourself told me I was crazy that Assad at one point lost his love for the sport only to show you an article where he said just that… that he lost his love for the sport. There are many others I could list off. I still laugh ar you guys saying Spencer’s unSpencer like performance was because of mono a few years back. I don’t give a shit what Ironside reported I knew better. I do stick to facts and when I don’t have facts I make it clear it’s my opinion. But go on..

Go read the thread again my friend. I gave my opinion that his heart is not in like it needs to be. I still believe that. You then called me out for being full of shit that at one time he lost his love for the sport. You only backed off after I showed you a article that it was in fact truth.

You have a 174 that didn’t really care to come back another year. A 184 that doesn’t care if he wrestles or not, a 165 that can’t stay healthy, a 149 that can’t seem to stay healthy himself, a 133 that could pop his top off at any moment and a 125 that is afraid to wrestle so he can at least make it to March. Probably best to worry about your own team before PSU or Michigan.
Dont forget a 197 who is already this year having nagging shoulder trouble.

yeah i know you believe it and it's a creepy fixation you have on a kid you've never met. it reflects poorly on your character that you show so much glee over it. the rest of the normal people on this board don't do things like that. they stick to the wrestling. if you want to talk about how assad won't aa because his offense is too straight on and he doesn't attack enough, please do because i agree with that.

also, i never "backed off" lol. i still think you're full of it. i think you need less time on the internet my friend. way too concerned with "winning" arguments on HR. you don't win any of them. you haven't convinced a soul over there. they just think you're sad and annoying.

he gave a media day interview talking about his injury last year and having a lot of time off the mat not being able to wrestle. unless you think this is a big conspiracy and he's lying, idk what to tell you man.

I can help with tips to keep your weight above 180 :( 🥺

I can’t help that your Neanderthal type mentality would think that it would be a bad thing that a kid no longer loves a sport and would rather do other things. Why would you look at that as a bad thing and then accuse someone of showing glee because they brought up the possibility that it may be the case with Assad? Why don’t you just post my words here to show everyone that I was glee-full about it? Go ahead… do it. Oh..and you still think I’m full of shit? Well you must then feel Assad is full of shit because it came from his own mouth that he lost his love for the sport and nearly quit. That or you are as dumb as I originally thought. Like I said , only you asswipes over at HR would look at the kid differently if he isn’t all in on wrestling anymore.

He was injured early in season but that’s not what kept him off the mat all season. Sorry.. it just wasn’t. He couldn’t break the starting lineup. HE’S NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Btw, you are the one saying Assad is full of shit not me. Your ego is so fragile you can’t admit you were wrong so youd rather just say I was full of shit in essence calling Assad a liar when saying he nearly quit the sport. Maybe you should be the one backing off the internet awhile. You don’t always have to win JS. Remember that and stop making yourself out to be a dumb ass trying to prove that you are right.

Respectfully disagree here. He was 4th at Big Tens by beating Braunagel, Jordan, Webster and Weiler over a season. He also majored Taylor Venz (despite what you say about him being out of shape) Win over Colbray as well his first year. He's undersized so yes, his ability to AA obviously will be very draw dependent but he has quite a few wins over guys at the R12 level which is impressive.

Assad has the highest ceiling sure but that's not much different than Joe Lee having the highest ceiling for PSU at 157/165 off pedigree and previous wins. He's clearly not there right now, maybe he'll get back but he has the RS available.

I might be able to get you 2 on a Rokfin card if you both agree. I can even gather the $ to cover travel costs.

We did that in the past for a couple matches.

you can just admit you didn't listen to his interview where he talked about a serious injury in january that kept him from competing for the spot.

one of us is operating from publicly available information. the other is arm chair psychologizing based on an article from when the kid was 15 years old. stop being such a weirdo dude. you're fun to talk to when you stick to the wrestling. take a deep breath.

i'll make it easy for you:

the venz match means nothing. the problem with nelson is that he can't score consistently without guys taking bad shots. venz took a million awful attacks and nelson ran around him over and over again. that's his only elite skill. he was never that dominant again that season. he had a good big ten tournament, but he was the 9 seed there for a reason. he had losses to braunagel and lyon, and every one of those big ten wins was a dogfight that could have gone the other way. if you watched his performance at ncaa's, it was clear that he's not a reliable source of points at ncaa's. he got lit up by bolen and kane.

and the other thing is that there really isn't much risk to what they're doing right now. he tried to grow into 184 for two years and couldn't stay above 180. if assad and wilson don't show anything, you can just move him back up to 184 and give him a shot. he's going to weigh 178-180 regardless. at least now you get to see him where he'll be next year and if kemerer ends up getting hurt, you have a guy with some matches at the weight that can fill in.

this calculation would be different if it were last year and they had a really limited timeframe to build a qualification resume. they can be more patient this year.

no bad blood here. i just wish he stopped his fixation on abe assad wanting to quit. it's in poor taste and he's constantly trying to start fights about it on HR. i think most people have him on ignore over there by now, but he's a lot more charming when he doesn't do weird stuff like this.

i'll make it easy for you:

You’re dumb. The kid even clearly said the injury wasn’t a year long thing or anything. Look, do you really expect the kid to say he couldn’t break the lineup because he couldn’t win the spot? This interview to me kinda backs up what I’ve been saying. Had to Lol when he said he’s not the type to sit around and watch wrestling that he has other things to do.

I’m done arguing about this here. Bottom line, you are a bunch of crybabies over there. I told you guys that I didn’t agree with you all thatAssad was going to AA and I gave you my opinion why. You don’t like my opinion so you all bellyache. I told you guys I didn’t expect Kem to make the finals this year and again you all cry like babies when I told you why I felt that way. Even laughed at me for suggesting Kem really wasn’t that excited about yet another year of the grind. Willie will back me up on that one. You guys don’t have the stomach to hear things that may be against your own thoughts and opinions… you just don’t.

Btw, I’ll stop being a weirdo when you stop coming here and lying. Either produce the proof I GLEEFULLY talked down about Assad or admit you lied. In fact, if memory serves I had to actually step in and say if the kid did lose his love for the sport that there is nothing wrong with that and people shouldn’t look down on kid for that. You lied and you know you lied. :)

Did someone say dogfight? And no one asked if that dog bites?
I'm ashamed of you guys, where are the trolls?
The set up was incredible...

lol i took a lot of heat for nelson skepticism back in the day. looking forward to seeing him at the correct weight class next year. i do think he’s pretty solid but it’s tough to wrestle at an aa level up a weight. ask beau bartlett
