B1G Tournament -- Session 3 Thread

Well....Iowa gets the perfect start to their day. Abe Assad gets 2 bonus via a Medical Forfeit in the 7th place bout against Malczewski. He wasn't the only one. Austin Gomez and Gavin Hoffman also MFF.

Anyone else notice that the producer of the BTN coverage seems to have instructed the full broadcast crew to focus on and “talk up” the non-PSU wrestlers. I suppose this helps encourage the fans of other schools who are facing yet another epic tsunami of aggregate talent from our Nits. For those somewhat annoyed by the lack of PSU interviews and “mentions”, …. worry not because Tulsa is coming.
This is a really bad take IMO. As others posted, the interviews are based on willingness to participate and things like human interest. I just can't believe that the TV producers go in with an effort to minimize PSU coverage.

And I would be pretty sick of it if all the focus was on PSU guys just because we are leading - it is pretty good to hear from guys that you don't know as well as the PSU guys.

This is kind of like me in my HS fandom thinking that the ref I know who graduated from a rival HS, who is a really good guy, is always kind of sticking it to us because of the rivalry - going on 40 years. (Although, yesterday as the assistant ref in the match to go to states for one of our freshmen he stepped in to discuss and waive off a TD that occurred and was called 2 with 30 seconds to go in the first period after the period had ended. And then in the 2nd period when an illegal hold was missed, that was really, really clear but the primary ref was not in position, he didn't step in as the assistant to discuss - WTF, and we lost a close one. So, I think my conspiracy theories are well-founded there, lol.:rolleyes:)

As an Iowa fan, I could care less if they interviewed or “mentioned” any of my teams wrestlers, coaches, families, etc… if I won all the time. I don’t get the complaints that “other teams” get more coverage. It’s not like it’s hurting recruiting for Penn St. Seems like something trivial and doesn’t deserve a lot of attention but I see by some comments on this board it’s very upsetting to a portion of this fanbase.
I just hope we continue to dominate like we have

I'm for all those things. ALSO, for my 78 year old father to be able to watch the matches he tunes in to see.
As usual, as a wrestling fan you have to mimic The Minority Report just to catch one of the few opening round matches we had.
I can do it, many others as well, not everyone possesses the skills or the passion needed to watch I guess.
I may not understand your point. This is a tournament with 140 wrestlers. There is easily accessible information about viewing options. We duplicate that information here. It is not difficult to access the matches (unless Flo is the provider).

The interviewer who interviewed Spencer’s parents had a missed opportunity when he didn’t say ‘ Lar, any recent updates to the 3 inch binder?’

A couple of observations:

1. How often has PSU exceeded expectations at Bigs? I love what I am seeing. We don't peak in March we peak in mid-March. To the rest of the NCAA, 'beware the ides of March'.

2. How about Nebbys performance? Really nice tournament for the huskers, I think they might just send HR into caniptions. TnT will have the Ferraris signed before April 1st.

Translation: "This is like that time I was wrong for 40 years and then found out yesterday I was right all along."

Did I get that right, @dicemen99? :p

Dice: Love the fire. It’s a forum and we all get to play ….. some of us recovering from a late night and others fully caffeinated.

Already factored into their 108.5

It’s nice to see Assad get once match in that he’s not on his back.

Without a doubt, the most dangerous place in America is between an Amine and a television camera.
I don’t get the animosity towards the Amines. They are obviously a zealous wrestling family. Nothing wrong with that. Yeah, the senior Amine can be quite animated when his sons are competing. So what? That’s the kind of stuff that makes for good camera coverage of the crowd. I’m sure that if any of us were out there on the mat, we’d want our dads to be in the stands cheering for us too.

They need to hate. It's their persona.

Ready for a longggg day of wrestling! Let's go
Got a call from a friend who lives near Spokane. There’s a big wildfire out where your logging operations are located and they need all the help they can get to stop it. 😈

That's one fire I'll turn down😁. Hopefully Gary catches a little fire here at the end of match.

when all the amines lose they are not good losers!

Steen loses 6-5 to Lujan. I think he missed a spladle opportunity on the final scramble.

You're missing the point. We're recruiting you. We are proposing a straight up trade for gunsie823.

The more annoying thing is the parent interview full screen when action is happening. In particular, Larry "I'm gonna recruit your wrestlers" Lee and the ever annoying and arrogant Amine family.

At least after the finals the action is paused and the wrestler actually won something.

I hope that they interview Lee again during the final and Spencer gets thrown and decked in the middle of it. That would be TV gold worthy of a new 3 inch binder.
The one I didn't get was why interview Amine's uncle?

Key takeaway. Qualifying for nationals is hard, all these kids are really good.

For all the less than enthusiastic press Steen gets on this board (yours truly included), tOSU has a top P4P blue chip recruit wrestling for 11th and hoping for an at large. What's going on in Columbus? I was bummed when they nabbed Gallagher. I thought he would be an AA type for sure. He may still get there but he sure doesn't look like much this year
