Curious to know what the status of Ryan Bagwells RTK/FOIA cases were?

If there's going to be any additional info on this saga it will likely come from requests for info from various agencies.

He's still fighting the fight. He keeps up his Twitter account.

Congrats to the @Philly_DAsOfc, which finally won something in this ongoing RTKL battle! Nice work guys. So proud.

I believe the DOE owes him some docs last I checked but I'm not certain.

Bagwell should have been elected to the BOT

We f*cked up
I voted for him because he was not supported by the majority and was perceived as a bit of a maverick by those who were consolidating their own power against the OGBOT. He was too contrary for either group. I liked that. Also, he is an attorney and really understands the nature of the legal battle (he is not an attorney and thank you for the correction Tom Mc - in some ways it's even more impressive that he isn't one in that as a non-attorney he is still willing to go through the process of making all of those filings and doing so properly and efficiently, which at least shows that he does understand the nature of the legal battle). He is fighting on principle. That is to be admired. He might have ultimately been frustrated in his efforts. It would have been fun to watch though.

I don't recall, but I assume he was't one of the PS4RS chosen ones?
IIRC - and this is OTTOMH - the only time Bagwell ran was back when there were 20-25 folks running. And he got decent numbers, but not enough to win a seat

Since then - and this is one of the A9 disingenuous f*ck ups that no one ever talks about (and self-serving bullshit on the part of the A9) the requirements to get on the ballot were made 500% more difficult.
This happened immediately after the last of the A9 were in their seats - - - - making it even more difficult to unseat incumbents.

Since then, IIRC, in the next two elections we had exactly TWO non-incumbents even get on the ballot - - - JVP (of course) and the Bowsher guy from San Diego (who worked like a dog to get on there)

But - of course - the A9 are all for Responsible Governance

Are you sure about that? I haven't spoken with Ryan is 3 or 4 years, but he wasn't an attorney at that time, I don't recall him indicating that he was in law school.

After college he was a journalist. He switched from that to being a software developer. During his time as an investigative journalist, he became very familiar with making FOI filings.

He isn't. Now I'm making stuff up. I knew that. A switch flipped in my brain and I assumed that he was because he was willing to make all of those filings and your average non-attorney would not have the stomach for that.

I just looked it up and, according to his bio, he is a software developer and former newspaper reporter.

I'll fix that and take a timeout.

Ryan Bagwell first ran for BoT in 2012. That was the year we had 86 candidates. Why his nose got bent out of shape over that first year's endorsement process still mystifies me. He hadn't done much at that point.

Having dozens of candidates running against nasty incumbents we needed to unseat made the process really difficult. PS4RS acknowledged ALL ALONG during the 2012 election cycle that good candidates were not going to get endorsements simply because of the numbers. Not only that, Ryan was later urged to seek the endorsement and it's disingenuous to imply he would not have received it. He was more interested in casting stones than winning, in my opinion.

Nevertheless I still think highly of Ryan and hope he will try again. I contributed to his Sunshine Fund. I'm not sure if he's done with that project or not.

Update from Ryan via FB: "The investigation by the US Attorney for the Middle District of Pa. ended sometime around 2014. No charges were filed. I am currently locked in a FOIA battle for those records. I have received some but they are continuing to withhold hundreds of thousands of pages."

well not me i voted for him.
PSFRS f'd up in not supporting him.
I also voted for him. I'm also critical of PS4RS for many things, but this isn't one of them. Ryan chose not to seek their endorsement so that's on him, not PS4RS. In the years he ran PS4RS was successful in getting all of their endorsed candidates elected, they essentially controlled things. Choosing not to attempt to get their endorsement was a mistake.
