Whenever I hear talk of baseball expansion, I'm always amazed that the city of Charlotte, which has grown tremendously and has a professional football franchise and NBA franchise, isn't considered.
Get it, but Atlanta may object. Of course, I could see Seattle having a problem with Portland. All sort of interesting. Though, from a talent and fundamentals standpoint expansion is the last thing MLB needs. The product is already watered down enough.

I think Charlotte was a viable option a few years back. I think they have given that up, though. The AAA Charlotte Knights used to play just over the border in South Carolina, but within the last 10 years or so, they built a really nice new stadium in uptown Charlotte that seats about 10,000 or so. They draw fairly well. Once they did that, I think they gave up their MLB aspirations and they are satisfied with the NFL, NBA, NASCAR triple play.

But please let's not have MLB expand! Good grief. I'm open to handling the whole schedule and playoffs and league makeup differently, but they don't need more teams to do that.

I've never understood why leagues don't experiment more with neutral field games (like they sometimes do overseas) ...

For example, mandate every team play 2 (giving up one home & one away) games somewhere neutral ... and see what kind of support there is.

The NFL could have done so in LA and ... it would be better than having at least 1 1/2 unwanted team there.

I'm amaze-balls San Antonio, the 7th most populous city in the country, does not have a baseball team. To heck with expansion. Build a new stadium and tell the Oakland A's to "come on down!"

It seems clear that Portland will get a team in the next round expansion. Instead of Montreal, they should consider Indianapolis, San Antonio, Salt Lake City, Charlotte, even Las Vegas. I do not understand why they'd try to go back to Montreal
