Basketball team looks overmatched against Northwestern

they look horrible. They lack the must basic fundamentals as players and as a team

If I didn't know full well that Northwestern will be choking and gagging when they play the top half of the conference, I'd say that this loss doesn't matter, but they will, and it does. This team has talent, but man, this is tedious. I've been on the Chambers must stay committee for a long time, but this is getting tough to watch. At some point you need to play better.

Cats lost to ND by 4, who Nova couldn't put away till late. Their other loss is by 2 to Butler, who beat two ranked teams already and are 11-1. I don't think PSU is poised to do much in conference this year but Northwestern is good and will make some noise in-conference.

The is no question that Northwestern is a good team. If they keep up the performance that they have shown thus far, they will be ranked soon. They look like a tournament team to me. That being said, these are the games that I would like to see Penn State be competitive. It would be nice for them to make a game of it.

The came back nicely against Pitt. I just wish they wouldn't dig themselves as big of a hole in these games.

They're not THIS good.

Jesus, they're gonna hit 50 at halftime. Defense is non existent.
Not to worry because now we're losing with Philly kids. That's so much better than before when we were losing with non-Philly kids. We lose better now, apparently it's more often now, but it's good losing.

Pretty big deal for Northwestern if they can make the NCAA tournament -- they are the ONLY long-standing member of a power conference to have NEVER yet made the big tournament. Chris Collins seems to be doing a good job.

Our team can't shoot or defend...I think this is both a recruiting problem and a coaching problem.

I'm officially done with this program and coach!!!! We will never ever be good until we get and pay a great assistant coach. Chambers is getting out coached so bad, not even funny anymore!!!

Tough 1st half to watch (the end of the Army-UNT and the first quarter of the Temple-WF bowl games were more fun to watch). PSU was inconsistent, typically a step behind...and this is against Northwestern! Not getting rebounds or making free throws when they absolutely had to in order to stay in the game. Just disappointing.

We're 15% from 3pt range and 32% from the field...worst I think I've ever seen to be honest

Northwestern seems to be building towards their first appearance, but they have been close recently. Collins is doing a good job, but this Penn St team is erratic and disappointing. I'm trying to be patient with Chambers and look at the big picture. Not easy

But I thought it was Tourney or bust this year, well according to Chambers. This is a team PSU has to beat. I don't care how improved they are. We are suppose to be better also.

Shooting is the least of their problems. Defense, rebounding, boxing out, and general toughness are bigger problems IMO.

He has, but his shot selection also needs to improve.

I am not doubting you or giving you crap, but do you have the numbers? I don't have the stats or the percentages, but yes, I believe both his 3 percentage and his 2 ball percentages are better this year than last, but small sample size also.

The performance today was awful. I love Pat as much or more than anyone, but there is no excuse for today.

We're young, however, so maybe this team improves.

Including today, 5-18 this season from 3, after going 3-39 last year. But my eyes tell me that those makes were all clean looks, while he struggles when contested. He's not a three point threat, but I think he's improved enough to at least keep them honest.

And that's true but right now we don't have any shooters. It's a real problem. We also don't defend the three and don't rebound.
Garner, Carr, and Banks can all be shooters, but again, it comes down to shot selection. I'd say our three biggest issues now are shot selection, communicating on defense, and attacking the defensive glass. All three of those will improve with experience.

The team is filled with freshman and sophomores. Give them a year.
Yes this is true. Chambers has a huge advantage over "basketball schools" where "we're young" doesn't feed the bulldog.

iS Zemgulis injured? He is supposed to be their best or at least one of the best shooters, maybe he needs some more time.

Carrs will improve, garner has tons of minutes under his belt, he should know better and Banks, well, lets just say Im not a fan, even when he's 'on' he gives up the same points on D.

Zemgulis has shown to be a decent shooter, but he's a complete liability in almost every aspect other than as a catch and shoot guy.

Franklin knew when to upgrade assistants. Chambers needs to do the same. Takes more than recruiting from Philly. Not sure current staff can coach 'em up. Great individual talent; little there in the way of sound fundamentals.

Agree. When Chambers had an assistant opening he went in house. Not surprised that this team is up and down as they are true freshmen. He needs to hold this team together and show major improvement going into next season, which will be when he needs to have a great season or move on.

I was told that Reaves has improved his shooting.

I don't know about that...he's 17% From the three point stripe this year...those are Shaq like numbers and he's a guard. He's 43% from the field, but most of his scoring is from layups.
