I took the OP's question as being about the "best wrestler" on the college wrestling scene right now. Skills and abilities on the mat, nothing else, yet the thread went elsewhere.

All three listed are phenomenal talents. Lee and Steveson have the best results this year, but for me Lee would be #1 pound-for-pound.

I think putting Brooks on your list has a little of "homer" mentality. I love the kid and his class. But if you were only going to put 3 choices on the ballot, I would think Deakin should be on it.
Yet Brooks has the least career losses of any of them after 2 years - and Brooks never had to ride a guy in order to avoid a tech. Let’s have Deakin dominate someone other than Kaleb Young.

I brought my boys up to win quietly. If that makes me a snowflake, so be it. There is no place for in-match taunting. This isnt WWE. Agree to disagree without me telling you, Smeal, what I think of people who DONT have a problem with this?

I don't see a huge difference between what Gable did and Bo putting a hand up to his ear after the Brooks spladle. Or Molinaro mugging for the camera mid-match.

I didn’t see him taunt Parris during the match. Did you see that, serious question. I have no problem with the way he answered the question afterwards. I find it interesting how some people find him cocky and arrogant and turned off by it, but other wrestlers who act like that are just confident or intense. It’s reminds me of people calling Sharapova a rival to Serena Williams. Serena is like 25-2 against her and people would still say rivalry. It’s comical. Just as comical to say Parris is Gables rival after that beat down.

There is no difference, that’s my point below.

Maybe you could post a pic of Maria Sharapova, so the rest of us can better understand your point.

Bo helped guys up too. I cant recall any PSU wrestler taunting their opponent the way GS did Parris. Forget the fact that Parris prolly deserved it, Gable could have still taken high road.

he’s also the only one who redshirted and isn’t a bonus machine like the other two. I like him but he isn’t, or shouldn’t, even be in the convo for this not yet anyway. In the future I’m sure he will be.

Lee is best wrestler. However you could see Lee getting caught up in a scramble and getting in some trouble.
No one is going to get Steveson in trouble. I thought Parris would give him a good match. He got rag dolled.

AGREED! Damn! I rally thought Parris would make it a match but Stevenson was on rolled him!! He is like a pissed off Bull out there! He is scary good now that he is focused on wrestling and not sexual assault! Although what he did to Parris and Cassoppi could be considered sexual assault in some jurisdictions!

To me the biggest baddest dude wins always "Who is the bets wrestler in the world". If Spencer Lee had any balls he would challenge Gable man to man to determine who is the "BEST" wrestler in the world! My money would be on Gable!

My vote is for Spencer, then Gable. But they’re very close. Brooks is in the top 5, but you also have to consider Parris. If not for Gable, he’d be in this same conversation.

Also, I think it’s a big mistake to leave Fix out of the poll. He is the only one of them all to make a senior world team. Beating a world silver to make the team.

I like Spencer and don't like Gable....but if I'm being honest I am more amazed by Gable. His quickness and wrestling IQ are quite unreal. I think both young men have Gold in the future.

I agree that I don't see anyone stopping Gable now that he is focused and pissed. Not even Snyder. Lee is great but so is Nick Suriano now that he is cleaning up on the world freestyle circuit. I don't think he can get by Nick for the spot on the Olympic team. Fix will be in the mix as well and he can take Spencer as well.

I attended a tennis event in the aughts in which Anna Kournakova played. Her match was hilarous. Four high-school boys with the letters of her name painted on their bare chests hooting and hollering the whole match. But she was easy on the eye for sure.

So, does your wife ever comment on your deportment? ;) :)

I take it you are single, or you'd know the answer.

She heard me on the phone with Verizon's customer-no-service department in a two hour I don't care, fix it mode and said "I'm so glad I'm not the other person on the line, I think you just wounded their inner child". Since she's an RN, I took it as high praise.

I’m calling BS. I’m sure you said the same thing about Gilman. He said exactly what he should have an the interview. We’re always wanting guys to be real and not be robots then when someone is ya jusge him for it. Parris isn’t his rival. Why even ask that? They’ve wrestled only twice and it’s not like it’s a mich vs OSU thing. He said he was coming for the HWs when ask what message he wanted to send them lol.
Parris was the one talking shit online. So when a guy whips him, and I mean made him look like a hs sr out there, he’s not aloud to tell him he may Want to keep his mouth shut next time?
im a fan of both guys but maybe Parris will learn not to poke the bear next time when you aren’t Even close to on his level.

Talking shit happens in all sports, including wrestling, never knew that wrestling fans were so sensitive lol.

For the most part, scholastic wrestling has been free of the detractions of the scatological elocution that plague other sports. I have given up watching most other sports, because I'm sick of the post score self aggrandizement.

Parris was an idiot for making his tweet, because he never beat Steveson before and all he did was poke the bear. GS kicked it up a notch, but then again GS was trying to taunt AC, who owns the two losses on Steveson's record so...

Please ask this question again in 4 years. Right now Brooks is at such a comparative disadvantage as a result of being so early in his career. If my hunch proves right, in four years he will be our first 4 time champ and an olympic gold medalist. Neither Steveson or Lee will be able to match that resume.
Other than not wrestling for PSU, why couldn't Lee match that resume? Sure Spencer may not get there but as it stands now , he can still attain both of those goals ; correct?

How did my name show up on your post when I had nothing to do with the post you replied to? Very interesting. How did you do that?

That part I get but he was responding to a Chickeman Testa post #42 but instead of saying "Chickenman Testa said at the top it now read Sportfan2017 said. No clue how his post somehow became my post. Mysteries :)
My guess is that Curtisloew40 started replying to your post, never finished, then started reading the thread, and then started replying to another post. Then he had two quoted posts, and he only wanted one. Being a Hawkeye fan and linguacidal maniac who likes to write “would of” instead of “would’ve”, he was too lazy to delete properly from the top down, and so he started deleting wherever and ended wherever, and he had the header of your quote box on the body of another guy’s quote box. :)

Good point. Couple of points to consider.
1. I wouldn’t think of someone who wins 4 of the 5 NCAA tournaments they entered as highly as some who went 4 for 4.
2. The 4 year span takes into consideration a) that Spencer’s injuries are mounting up and it will be even tougher on the knee and shoulder grinding out tournament wins against world class competitors and b) Gable’s apparent desire to be the next Rock may derail achieving those goals.
3. Lastly, I think the bookend weights of 125 and Hwt as having less “physical” talent. Almost every wrestler from 149-197 is a physical specimen, as the physical separation between the top 20 wrestlers is slight, while not so in 125 or Hwt. Hence the edge usually lies is skill. Now Lee and Steveson are physical freaks, but they are an an anomaly is those weight classes for the most part which gives them a huge edge.

Just a few thoughts for your consideration.

OK........lazy editing......I can deal with that. I just have fear that someone using my name.....may post "me" confessing to being the guy on the grassy knoll. I wouldn't do well in prison :)
