Beer: IPA's?

Personally...blind pig is my favorite of the RR "non sours". Yes....better than elder. I've had Younger a couple times since philly is lucky enough to get it. Haven't tried to get it in 2 years, the hype train is outta control when it comes to younger. It's good but not worth the effort to get it. Consecration is insanely delicious (I know it's not in the IPA realm but RR crushes sours).

I used to like Blind pig better, but it's just not the same anymore. I've been told that it has slipped due to the Pliny hype. Last time I went to Russian River, I wanted to put this to bed, so I ordered a pint of each expecting to enjoy the Blind Pig more. Fresh on draft in Santa Rosa, there is no comparison, Elder was much better. Younger is amazing, just wish it wasn't so hard to get these days. Only a few years ago you could walk in to RR, wait in no line, and take a growler of Younger with you weeks after it was released. Now there are 8 hour lines and it sells out daily.

I'm also a huge fan of Supplication. A couple of those during happy hour and some Pliny bites makes for a great night, but you better have a hotel within walking distance!

Have at it! I'm going to go home and agonize over whether I want a Heady Topper or Sip of Sunshine!

There won't be any agony on my part....I'll have a Heady. Have a couple in my fridge as well. As for SIP, that is one beer that I think is a tad overrated. I've had a couple batches and they have varied. Last batch was really good, but the first batch or two I had was just ok. Not to mention how fast that beer drops off after 2-3 weeks.

I agree Heady is better, and is good, but different for months. That's why there is a over a case of HT in my fridge and only about 6 SOS. So far my SoS has held up really well, so maybe they've worked out the kinks?

Hard to rank the wilds. Every time I think this one is best, I get a different one and start thinking. For me-

Supplication
Sanctification
Temptation
Consecration
Beatification

My order is very different given where Sanctification and Beatification are for most. The first 4 though change constantly.

Spot on with Heady. I have hidden some intentionally in the past just to see how they change. I actually prefer heady after a month or two sitting. Seems to balance it out. One of the few hoppy beers that can get better with some time on it.

Some of my favorites that I have tried..

Troegs Perpetual IPA
Troegs Hopback
Troegs Blizzard of Hops
Dogfish 60 Minute also 90 Minute
River Horse IPA
Founders All Day IPA
Rogue Yellow Snow IPA
Uinta Hop Nosh IPA
Foothills Brewing (NC) Hoppyum IPA
Sweetwater Brewing IPA
Victory Hop Devil

Last week I tried Sierra Nevada's Celebration Ale and I enjoyed it.

I had some Pig in Philly last month and it did taste a little "off". That might explain why. I just figured maybe they had an old keg. I have been lucky in the past to know someone who was tapping Younger during lunch hour without making a big scene (they actually asked that you leave your phone off, don't tweet about it, and don't check in on untappd about it). They charged $7 for a tulip and you could sit and drink all day. Those days are long gone. The only way to get it here now is by purchasing a $20 ticket usually, waiting in line for 2 hours, and then crowding into a small bar and drinking 8oz's for an additional $10. When you have to go through all that to get a beer it ruins it for me. It's a shame, because stand alone without all the B/S its a great beer. I find that I judge a beer differently depending on A) the price I paid to get it and B) what I had to go through to get it. I judge a little more harshly sometimes when that all comes into play, while I know that isn't fair to the beer or brewers, I just can't help myself.

How long did you thing I could sit by and watch a HT conversation continue?

Czar....the "Did Vermont disappear?" had me spitting out my beer. That's alcohol abuse and I'm throwing a comedy flag!! lol.

If it did disappear, Jmor knows exactly where it disappeared to......my fridge. Half case of HT, SoS and Second Fiddle, several Foley's and lord knows what else.. Helps to have a skiing problem AND a daughter at UVM. Focal Banger and any beer from Hill Farmstead. Sheesh.

I'm all for San Diego beers, but claiming as the capital of IPA's? But.....selling your brewery for $1B certainly aids the moniker!! GF Sculpin is the best lawnmower beer around.

Dude...I'm watching you drink VT beers on a nightly basis like it's Miller Lite...It's disgusting and I don't want to be your friend anymore!!

I can't wait until they start regularly canning Focal Banger!

I'm not a big fan of second fiddle. Just doesn't do it for me. Pretty much anything HF makes is gold though, I especially like Abner, Harlan, Citra, and Conduct of life.

Wuss. Like that long string of 5 stars you post on Untappd are giving you problems. o_O

And Czar....yes, 2nd is a step down, but still loads better than others.

Meanwhile.....I think some More Cowbell from SingleCut Beersmith or a brewery I can't remember in Houston needs to make it's way north!! Who better to rate that than me??

So many IPA's aren't even IPA's anymore. It is just the current preferred label. So many of these are brewers are just back-loading hops to get the florals/spices but not the bitters from the alpha acids. I'm not saying these types don't have a place just it is a little disingenuous to call what a lot of breweries are producing IPA's.

Sorry for the little diversion onto the soapbox.

The thread has me totally lost. How do you guys keep track of all this? I'll admit I might divert to Lancaster Milk Stout or Samuel Smith's on occasion, but as long as my fridge has a few Yeunglings and some Guinness Draft, I'm a happy camper. Guinness is the beer you've been practicing for. No reason to experiment with Toad's Arse Double Hop and a Skip if you get my drift.

Yeungling is like your highchool sweetheart, it's awesome at first, but you don't want to marry her and spend the rest of your life with her. Craft beer is like a super model, and I have a new one every day.
