Being reported Chip Kelly to the Raiders as their OC

Much bigger deal than losing Jim Knowles. He turned around a week offensive line and gave Ohio State a rushing offense. Maybe Ohio state will be a top 10 or top 15 team next year.

Do you think they will finally give Hartline the position?

So far TOS insiders have been dead on correct about everything they've said. Those Buck lurkers in here have denied them like Judas, every step of the way.

The latest word is Hartline will get his promotion but Day will call the plays.

Oh and by the way, every portal possible from there that the insiders discussed is still on the table

I'm not saying Hartline won't take the deal but I just wonder why take the O.C. job if you aren't calling plays?

Agree, who becomes offensive coordinator, but can’t call the plays

They gave it to him last year and he didn't contribute much. Has title of assistant offensive coordinator. Made huge mistake appointing Kerry Combs (legendary DB coach) to defensive coordinator. Personally don't think they will do it although they may up his title and salary.

What could they possible up his title to at this point?

here is a great point. I would also add that they will be staring a new QB, who is supposed to be a phenom but will probably need some miles under those tires before he can get to his pinnacle.

I might argue getting over the hump isn’t about just one game. It’s more of a start.

It is certainly a statement to win one. It says “we CAN do this”.

tOSU starts with TX which could get ugly. TX is a top-five team with a lot of experience (Ewers is gone though).

You then have Grambling, Ohio U, Washington, MN, IL, Wiscy, PSU, Purdue, UCLA, Rutgers and Michigan. I see three losses there (TX, PSU, Michigan). it is a pretty light schedule, overall. No Iowa, USC, or Oregon.

If the game was Oct 1….. yeah.

But by Nov 1 they should be a fine tuned machine again,

I don't agree. Julian Sayin, a high school phenom and a guy getting a lot of positive press in Columbus, will probably start. He is 19 years old and has only had 12 passing attempts in college. He'll have started the season against a powerhouse TX team. But after that the schedule is pretty light. They play Wisconsin two weeks before they play us and have a bye.

The championship QBs in college football in 2023 included Nix and Penix, both 23 years old at the time. This year, the final two QBs were Howard and Leonard. 23 and 22 respectively.

Who knows as this kid is supposed to be "all that" but it is really tough to develop game skills when you are not playing and in the middle of the season. And, as we all know, QBs seem to always play their best games against PSU.

Based on schedule alone looks OSU is pretty much locked into the top 10, probably still top 5, w the talent on the roster. Until proven otherwise you're going to beat us. you have more talent than Michigan and I think the natty takes the pressure off Day on that one. Only game you may not be favored in is Texas, and it's week one at home with Texas breaking in a new QB.

You make good points, but CJ Stroud didn't throw one pass the year before he started. Ryan Day and Lincoln Riley, are the best QB coaches in college football so I think it is possible that Sayin will be effective but he may not be.

Losing the coordinators to me obviously is not a positive, but the most immediate negative effect could be on recruiting. I would also say that when Ryan Day does not try to reward good position coaches he has a good record in hiring coordinators. For instance, Jeff Hafley, an unknown had the number one defense in 2019. Knowles was a good hire as well as Chip Kelly.

Yep. CJ was fantastic and, of course, he did it again his rookie year in the NFL> But he's the exception and not the norm. I have no idea about Sayin other than practice reports have been great. But practice is not game play.

I will not see an OSU loss to us, as you phrased it here, until I see an OSU loss to us. If you catch my drift… 🫤

Wow, seems the entire staff but Day is jumping ship. Really makes one wonder what is behind that curtain.

With this many coaches leaving it could be difficult to just reloaded usual.

Suckeyes collapse……cheaters maybe hammered…… dare I say it……..?????
OSU will be just fine. Top teams lose coaches all the time because the coaches can leverage the success of those teams into promotions. PSU hired 3 new coordinators last year and made the final 4 with less talent than OSU. Top coaches will drool at the opportunity to coach at OSU, they'll make solid hires and of course with a 90% blue chip ratio their roster will simply backfill any lost talent with more talent.

Perhaps, but the the pressure to beat them and the current Franklin narrative will also increase exponentially. I don’t think Day will have trouble finding replacements and they will still have two deep 4 and 5 stars at every position.

I read an article that said they'd break the record with the most NFL drafts from one team. IIRC, it was 15 or in that neighborhood. There are 19 eligible according to this site. Now, add in a new OC and DC plus several position coaches. Now consider that the primary xfer window is closed. The secondary one will open in April. They will still have the best WR corp in college football (Tate and Smith).

Day has been on a PR tour dunking and flexing for all he's worth. They've got a LOT of work to do. they'll be good but not great, IMHO. but who knows? it is college football being played by 20 years olds.

We play them in Columbus. Our record in Columbus since 1993 I think is 2-14. Day owns Franklin as he has never lost to him. I think they could bring out the women's field hockey team in OSU football uniforms and we find a way to lose to them. I'll believe it when I see it.

OSU probably goes through what Michigan did this year..frankly with the portal , NIL etc..I don't think we ever see ONE team dominate for a few years consecutively like we saw at one time with Georgia , Bama etc.

Players , Coaches etc...after winning a Natty..free to chase the big bucks at any given time..what also will be interesting to see..will be the clauses or buyouts in certain contracts..everyone will be looking for options that give them an "out"..

Well, I can't argue with what you posted but I sure hope the players and staff don't feel that way. Every game is a new game. PSU will never have a better chance than next year in the shoe
