Benick out at Tempe

Too much sun and fun? I say it sort of half-joking but, in reality, it's got to make it harder for these kids to stay on task. The weather, the co-eds ... I know every campus has parties and coeds, but from all reports ASU is on a different level than most of the schools with strong wrestling programs. It has to present an extra degree of difficulties for the program.

LemonPie (I believe) was kind of predicting this Benick flameout

Yes. Was never sold on this ASU squad. Last year, people had Naser at 125, which was never gonna happen, and predicting 8 or so AAs for ASU. Valencias are outstanding, Hall is very good, and Shields has upside, but that was about it. Benick has had very questionable results since entering college and I think ASU is better off by spreading around scholarship money for the upcoming recruiting classes.

Hopefully he will bounce back elsewhere. A good recruiting class, Tsirtis, and maybe a few other surprises and they are a top 5 team.

The weather is more conducive to Daisy Dukes than parkas. No other major wrestling program has such favorable weather. Then there's the distraction of the big city. Phoenix is hardly Snake Snot, Iowa. It's only a twenty minute ride from Tempe to downtown.
