Best Hot Dog in the U.S. is Jay's Hot Dogs in

Small world, I grew up in Flatbush and getting to CI was a subway ride away. Great memories of the late 50s mid 60s. I stop at Hot Dog Johnny's in Belvedere? NJ when I roll by. Not a Nathan's but not bad either.

I’m from Ave P and West 9th. Where in Flatbush were you?
Ave J has a great deli with good dogs and knishes. There was another couple on Kings Highway and one in 86th st. Smolinsky ‘s on Bay Parkway and 65th st was very good. I think only the one on Ave J is still around.

Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded. ;)
There's one in Stuart now (on US 1):

Also, the same people do the food at the burger place by the mini-golf on AIA by the inlet in Jupiter.

Dozens and dozens of friends & guests have all agreed with me since 1985: the hot dogs served at the halfway house of my country club in Glencoe, IL.

The dogs are split open while being cooked on the grill and the buns are also warmed on the grill.

What’s especially nice is you pass the halfway house after holes #1 AND #10.

I think you and I have different definitions of a halfway house. The halfway house on the street I grew up on was no place you wanted to go looking for hot dogs.

White Hut in West Springfield, MA. Homer Simpson drives from Springfield for the dogs. Needless to say, he has more than one.

I worked in Buffalo from 1978 to 1984 and in those days Ted's served Malecki's brand of hot dogs but Malecki's folded up and now Ted's serves Sahlen's brand which is the most popular hot dog. I can also buy Sahlen's hot dogs at the Publix down in Florida. In general, the south has lousy hot dogs and sausage excepting breakfast sausage.
In Jersey, where I grew up, I liked Stewart's root beer stands. Their root beer was the best and the hot dogs were great too.
In Ct. the brand that I can get is Hummel hot dogs which are great and sometimes I can find Dietz & Watson brand hot dogs which are also good.

I grew up in Northbrook and Little Louie’s right downtown was pretty good - fries were so greasy they turned the white bags you got them in clear by the time you ate them.

I've driven by this place in Denville, but I've never stopped in.

No hot dog is a good hot dog. As you get older and your body becomes less tolerant of garbage you'll find the venerable American hot dog on the list of banned foods, along with 99% of the crap most people put on one (ketchup, mustard, relish, chili, etc). I don't miss any of it. There are better accompaniments to sauerkraut such as real pork, not that processed $hit.

Thank you.

The best hot dog in the world is whatever hot dog I am eating at the time. I love hot dogs.

One of the best dogs I ever had was at the Eagles Super Bowl Parade. It was outside a bar on Passayunk Ave and came out of a pot of water and the guy put sauerkraut on top of it. Might have had something to do with the Eagles victory and parade.

Not familiar with "Super Dogs"... the Natural casing Pork/Beef are what I normally go to - available at Costco in Northern NJ...

This is a stock Thumanns photo. The super dog is a fatter hot dog than your average hot dog. Similar to a Tobin's First Prize hot dog that you can buy loose in some grocery stores and butcher shops. The super dog snaps when you bite in to it, not mushy like a 10 to a pack hot dog.

No ketchup on Hot Dogs !!:eek::D

I agree no ketchup on a hot dog!

I grew up in Denville. This place is relatively new and I have never been there but it replaces a well know place called the Denville Shack which was on the other side of town on Rt. 46 heading towards Rockaway. Development caused it to be torn down and replaced.
The Stewarts root beer stand in Rockaway also closed a couple of years ago so a new stand with hot dogs, hamburgers and Stewart's root beer makes sense.
That stretch of the Rockaway River, which is across the street from the stand, was one of my favorites for spring trout fishing.

Wow, really? I'm ashamed to say I lived in Beaver Co. for most of my life and went to Boardman all the time (used to have the best comic book shop) and never once ate at or heard of Jay's. On the list for when I go home next time. That said, I'm a die-hard Brighton Hot Dog Shoppe fan...(only restaurant to feature Donnie Iris on a cup!).

I'd rank Brighton Hot dogs right down there with the Sugardale hot dogs that you can buy a 10 pack of at the dollar store. Heck, they might even be those cheap ass hot dogs.

My pick goes to a place I went to in Americus Georgia (can't think of the name) ollowed by "Dirty John's" aka New Way Lunch in Glens Falls NY...just don't leave the empty box in your car in the summer...you'll never get the smell out

Any love for Jimmy's in Easton? I've heard good things.
I guy I used to work with had family in Easton and would bring them back when he visited. They are served with a pickle beside them on a bun. Maybe they are better fresh off the grill, but I wasn't that impressed.

One more for our Altoona friends. I never ate at the Downtown one, only the southside one off Plank Road. Good eats!

There is supposedly a difference between the two restaurants. My brother likes the downtown one better. If I go, I usually go to the Goods Lane (pictured above) restaurant because it's more convenient. I believe the downtown store just got new owners not too long ago and I don't know whether this has changed anything or not.

They're as good as any good hot dog. Nothing spectacular. You can only get onion, mustard or ketchup and pickle. No chili, etc. Regrettably, Richards is better. Jimmy's is an interesting story. It was owned by 2 random guys that eventually had a MAJOR falling out. Ended up going to court and the judge ordered one to sell out to the other. Last time I was there...and this was over 10 years ago, they were like 2 dogs for $1.25. I remember thinking you have to sell a heck of a lot of hot dogs to employ 3 people and pay the rent in a strip mall.

On the Richards...don't get me wrong, their stuff was tasty in a 50's drive-in nostalgia kind of way. I just won't go there. There's a ton of other junk food available within a mile that I hit when needed. Steve's Pizza is the best NY style pizza around, right around the corner and George's Pizza in Wilson has great cheese steaks.
