Better Call Saul Episode 2, how much do you hate Chuck?

Man, Chuck wins AGAIN. Cannot stand him.
I still cant believe Jimmy would be in that much trouble. It was a dispute between brothers, its not like Chuck was some random guy off the street Jimmy broke into. He didn't hit Chuck, took up a tape that Jimmy could say was his. Does our legal system really have time for this?

I'm right there with you until Jimmy said something about burning the gdamn house down.

I'll have to ask T.D. what Jimmy could be charged with, or on this board, Fairgambit would know, I suppose.

I'm thinking, breaking and entering, because Jimmy kicked the door in. Then you have trespassing, burglary, and terroristic threats. Plus you have two witnesses.

Ordinarily, I'd say Jimmy would have a shot at probation, but all those priors from the Slippin Jimmy days...

Jimmy's in a heap of shit here. Gonna take some MAJOR lawyering, and maybe a few breaks to get out of this.

see I don't see that, while there is no doubt he did all those things, couldn't you ask why Chuck had a PI in is house? To investigate or to be a witness? Chuck were you setting Jimmy up and that's why the PI was there? Chuck what is all of this stuff on the walls?? Are you nuts? I just think this was a family feud, no one was hurt, and again does LE have time for all of this stuff?? Now if he hit him, held him at gun point, maybe a different situation. What happened last night was a situation MOM would normally handle until DAD came home.

I agree. But somehow, I think Mr Ehrmentraut figures in to this equation sometime soon...

I imagine you saw outtake photographs of an upcoming courtroom scene with Jimmy in his orange jumper? I don't want to broadcast any spoilers, but there were a number of other characters in the courtroom with him which makes you wonder exactly what's going on.

He'd get the chair if it was PA

Can what Chuck did in regards to the private detective & Howard being there be considered a form of entrapment? Kim also has the info from Ernesto about Chuck' s behavior and might that be used against him. I think that Chuck will eventually snap and go permanently catatonic and Kim will be the one to push Jimmy in the Saul direction because Jimmy will feel guilty that he caused Chuck to crack and Kim will no longer want anything to do with Jimmy.

My guess is tampering/destruction of evidence? Regardless of how Chuck got him to do so, it's still destruction of evidence. Imagine that throws a wrench into the whole "recording without consent" argument of the tape.

My guess is this is how he becomes Saul Goodman. Makes a deal with Chuck to never practice law again at James McGill. That way Chuck is the only McGill in New Mexico.

Nice guess. That makes sense.

As many crimes as Jimmy has committed, bringing this to trial would pretty much end Chuck's career as well and do grievous damage to the HHM because it would make them a national laughingstock.

It would bring Chuck's tinfoil and electricity obsession full into the public eye -- as well as the fact that HHM knew he was crazy and kept him on their staff practicing law because his name continued to them money.

And really Really Chuck's behavior would draw the same public anger that it gets from watchers of the show. Feigning a relapse of his obsessive compulsive disorder to get his younger brother worried about him, and using that weakness to secretly tape him -- and all of it is because Jimmy was trying to win a case to help his fiance's fledgling firm after HHM treated her badly. And that Jimmy only confessed to Chuck because Chuck appeared to be in such pain.

Not that Jimmy deserves to get off, but the cost to Chuck and Howard's firm becomes very high I think. Chuck thought through the tactical legal part but not the strategic/public profile part. Howard's obvious dismay at the turn of events makes this clear -- Howard is no friend of Jimmy but he is almost as horrified by Chuck's antics as Jimmy's. You can always see the dollar signs in Howard's eyes, and he knows how incredibly costly this will be to HHM. He had pleaded with Chuck to sit on it but Chuck wouldn't listen -- vengeance was too important, plus, lest we forget, Chuck is mentally ill.

Kim is exhausted with all of this, at this point she doesn't care anymore.

Dunno. She seemed genuinely concerned about Jimmy after Ernesto told her about the tape. Cool
scene too - now we know where Jimmy got his 'give me a dollar - now I'm your lawyer' routine from.

And screw Chuck. Most despised character on TV since Joffrey.

But Jimmy has a history of being Chuck's caregiver and could say that he feared for Chuck's safety so he broke into the house. Neither "witness" was present at that time so their ability to hear Chuck's responses to Jimmy through the door would be impaired.

Jimmy's problem is that he can't say in court what was on the tape.

He doesn't have to. Just say chuck is crazy everybody knows that. Chuck was just obsessing over some dumb tape. I just tore it up

Except that Ernesto is a witness to what is on that tape, as is Hamlin.

Also, part of Chuck's issue is everyone likes Jimmy better than him even though he's been a f*** up most of his life - the other part, IMO, has to do with Chuck's wife leaving him. Wonder if they'll explore that more? Jimmy mentioned it when trashing the tape.

One of the Cusack ladies, I believe. Not Joan, but the eldest sister.

and another episode where the cinematography and framing were exceptional.
Dude, the shot where the upper part of Mike materializes over the pavement at the top of the hill (right before he finds the cell phone) was amazing. There is another great shot of the NM landscape over Mike's shoulder right after it, but it is overshadowed by the previous shot.

Exactly! That's the first shot I thought of.

Yea that was one of them that gave me chills watching. I rewound just to see that shot again. Brilliant.

Yea I gotta believe there is way more to the Chuck/Wife/Jimmy story.

Yeah, well, they do tend to overdo the Tarantinoesque "looking out of the car trunk" or the "looking up out of the trash can" shots.

Maybe, but INMO that wasn't one of "those" type shots.
That was someone that had an "eye" for photography, landscape and did a lot of scene scouting.

There was a great rack focus shot, during a scene in the first season, while Mike was watching the house of the embezzling couple, during Jimmy's caper to replace the missing money, then track it down using glow in the dark fingerprints.

This is another great illustration of the kind of man Mike is; loyal, dedicated, and determined. He's the guy you want leaning if you need to lean on anyone. Dude is as careful and methodical as they come...
