So what did you think of last nights episode?
I was not expecting the Breaking Bad world and Better Call Saul world to come crashing together so soon.
Thought the episode was a tad slow but still liked it.
Geez the scene at the pool sure had the tension ratcheted up. Its interesting to see if from this vantage point knowing what happens in, IIRC, season 4 of BB.
Is it wrong for me to like this version of Gus? Cause I kind of do. LOL.
Chuck is going to go down and go down hard. Can't wait to see it.
And what is up with that DA and Chuck? Geez talk about fawning all over him. ewww.
My second favorite character, after Jimmy, is Kim and I don't think I'm going to like how it ends with her.

Agree. Someone tweeted that there is nobody better than Gilligan at making an episode where nothing happens so intense. Have to agree (aside from each episode of Oak Island, of course).

I am curious as to what Jimmy and Kim have planned for Chuck with the photos Mike took. Seems like they set up Chuck & Howard when Kim commented to Jimmy, "Bingo". They got the info of a duplicate tape. Methinks Chuck is going to be disbarred due to mental health reasons.

I think Jimmy may claim that what he said on tape was a lie. And that his motive to lie was that he feared Chuck would kill himself.

I think that defense would have worked....if he (jimmy) hadn't broken into Chucks house, pried open the desk and then broke the tape all while saying "for this you destroy the family" in front of witnesses.
I think he has a better case for entrapment especially since there just happened to be a PI and Attorney there.
But whatever those photos Mike took are going to be a big part of this.

my random thoughts . . .

- great to see Don Eladio! now I want to go back and watch at least season 4 of Breaking Bad again . . . Bauer is amazing in the goofy drug lord kind of way

- Hector literally scraping sh*t on Gus's business. great touch. the fomenting rivalry between them is a glory to watch

- honestly, the scene in Breaking Bad where Mike had to abandon his granddaughter on the playground was one of most heartbreaking scenes in TV history. I tear up now watching him build that relationship in BCS

- with that said, Jonathan Banks and Michael McKean performed a master class in non verbal acting this week. the power drill scene had me in the good kind of tears

- I hate Lyle. I don't know why. But I just hate him

- Jimmy's non-apology, you could taste his contempt for Chuck on such a primal level. And Chuck being so petty about the restitution . . . oh that $2.98 is gonna cost you big time, Chuck

Good stuff. I like how they brought the two series closer together. What did Mike
Hand Jimmy besides the pictures. I thought at the time it was a tape. But don't think so

I noticed, perhaps for the first time, they didn't start the show with Jimmy as a cook at Cinnabon. The last time, he had a heart attack or something.
At the end of BB, he left to get a new identity and start over. Perhaps at Cinnabon. I suspect they circle back with him recovering from Cinnabon, and he is a changed man. He ends up turning on all of his drug connections. Perhaps his brother, stating that this is for his own good, ends up being correct.

I assumed he had a panic attack which caused him to pass out after seeing the kid hiding and then getting nabbed by the mall cops.

I think it was the location of the tape. Kim just needed to confirm it.

Now we know why Hector hates Gus so much: Low and behold, simple jealousy, from Gus making Hector look small time, in his much larger tribute to Don Eladio.

Now, I wonder who ended up being the reason that Hector ended up in that wheelchair.

I'm thinking Kim had a recording device in her briefcase, capturing Chuck saying "duplicate tape". Fight fire with fire. Existence of duplicate tape proves Chuck set Jimmy up.

The kerosene lantern on top of the newspapers will be used as evidence against Chuck somehow.

It seems pretty clear that Jimmy and Kim are going to outsmart Chuck in the end and Jimmy will have his revenge. Chuck is going to be publicly embarrassed, maybe he will even lose HIS Law license. We know Jimmy's law license somehow survives (after suspension, maybe?) because he's practicing law as Saul.

And I think there's a pretty good chance that Chuck dies -- maybe from grief when he loses his law license.

How this unfolds, however -- not apparent.

We have three clues.

1) The picture Mike took that Jimmy really liked was the kerosene lamp on top of copies of Financial Times. Is it because it proves Chuck crazy? Or the opposite - that Chuck is faking his condition, and manipulating everybody around him? The rest of the pictures are just generic ones of the house (albeit missing all the foil lining the walls)

2) Scrap of paper Mike hands to Jimmy contains something from Chuck's address book. So maybe contact info for Rebecca, Chuck's ex? She has been mentioned before, perhaps there's a reason we know her name -- maybe she's going to make an appearance. Again, maybe to help case that Chuck is a liar and a manipulator.

3) Kim confronting Chuck and Howard over tape was a ploy. Howard seemed be suspicious and cautious, but Chuck fell for it. Kim was pretending to want to suppress the tape, but in fact Kim and Jimmy want to make sure that tape gets played at the hearing. Their strategy relies on it. We know what the tape says about Jimmy, but what is the tape going to reveal about Chuck?

There is some detail about this that Jimmy has grasped and Chuck and Howard (and the rest of us) missed.

  1. I'm not sure where you're going with this.
  2. Bingo.
  3. Yeah, I can see that.

I don't know either. But I think Jimmy is going into the hearing to demonstrate that Chuck is a liar or crazy or both. Liar seems more likely. The admission that the tape Jimmy destroyed wasn't even the original kind of demonstrates that Chuck was lying and baiting Jimmy as part of a scheme to take his law license.

Maybe Jimmy can even testify convincingly that his confession to Chuck was a false one to make Chuck feel better and conceivably save Chuck's life. Jimmy's defense becomes that he was fooled by the diabolical lies of his brother who schemed to take Jimmy's law license away (and there is some truth to this). And maybe Rebecca gets to make an appearance to testify to Chuck's faking of his condition/insanity.

I just checked the IMDB cast list for the next episode. A certain omission seemingly blows your theory out of the water. Hmmmm. WTF?

Tell me more, no Rebecca? Any alternate theories out there that you've heard? It speaks to the quality of the writing that nobody's figured this out. Vince Gilligan is just the best. I was really not sure about this show for a while but they've got me hooked now. Aspects of this are as good as Breaking Bad, it just hasn't gotten as violent -- yet.

do we know if Rebecca left Chuck, or is maybe dead?

Sure seems like Jimmy threw her in Chuck's face last episode . . .
