For someone that understands the brackets better then me..... Why is it that sometimes the #1 seed gets a bye and other times the #1 does not in the BIG12 brackets. Thanks in advance.

I would guess the Big12 uses a random draw. I did not look past 125.
The NCAAs have no random draw anymore. They seed everyone 1 through 33 and 32 and 33 wrestle a preliminary match.

As nitlion said, for Big 12's, it appears the top-8 are placed, then all the rest (4 wrestlers) are randomly drawn and placed, similar to Big Ten's several years ago. Only 5 allocation spots is the most for any weight class, so no need to do it any other way. In one regard it gives the top wrestlers a 50% chance of a first round match and possible bonus, something the top-2 no longer have at Big Ten's.

I can’t disagree with you. He beat three pretty good wrestlers rather easily as a True Freshman. Has a lot in the tank too.
