Big Ten Championship Game is selling like preseason NFL on StubHub

They need to DRASTICALLY reduce ticket prices for the endzone upper decks at the Beav going forward until we get more distance from 2011 and the 7 win seasons. They also need to do something about the student section. Not sure what the solution is there. I'm thinking something like keep it the way it is for the big games, half the allotment any time falls on a Thanksgiving weekend, rope the student section off at end of 1Q at the last filled row, allow walk ups 2Q+ to anybody at a significantly reduced rate.

They need to make some changes this offseason, I would think this has Franklin's attention and he will turn to it after the season is completely over.

They need to re open the secondary market for student tickets. Not being able to sell tickets when you can't make it makes the student section look empty.

Plus fees. It's a bit misleading though. If you don't want to sit in the end zone on the Wisconsin half, and you don't want to sit by yourself, the tickets cost more.

Anyone know which side will be on TV the entire time? It could be UGLY if it is not Penn State.

There are THOUSANDS of good seats available on StubHub that are cheaper than buying from Penn State even with the fees.

Thank you captain obvious. When did I ever say that everyone should buy from Penn State? (Is that even an option anymore?)

Iowa is THE team in terms of sending people to big games on the road, but we might be second...

I'd say PSU ends up with 25,000 in Indy for the game, with a slight home field away from home advantage on the indoor field turf.

Don't discount Badger fans. They travel very well.

As far as visiting teams traveling well, one of the truly great moments in college football was when Husker nation took over South Bend. Somebody please find the pic again, it is pure, solid gold greatness.

That's not correct. The students get unfairly, IMHO, ripped for empty sections. However, that's not something that they control, unless every one that has a ticket comes to a game. Every other seat in the stadium is assigned, so even if 1/3 of the ticket holders don't attend, the stadium still looks pretty full. The student sections are GA, and PSU directs the students in to certain seats, so that there are no gaps between them. So the empty sections are a combo of trouble getting thru the gates, students not showing up, and/or students not electing to try to sell or unable to sell their tickets.

As for opening up the secondary market for student tickets, I think that's a mistake. The biggest reason that was closed was that students were not guaranteed tickets (i.e., you bought them online, if you got through, but you weren't guaranteed a tic just by being a student), so a number of students were buying tickets for the express purpose of making money on them (i.e., they had no intention of attending, but if they could get something that wasn't available to all, they knew they could make a profit on selling it).

Also, keep in mind that student tickets are available to students at all of the campuses. And student from branch campuses do purchase them. It should not surprise anyone that some of those students don't make it to each game, and also have trouble selling their tickets to the less glamorous games.

I'm honestly shocked. Penn State is one convincing win away from getting to the playoff, they have never played in this game before, and this game isn't going to come close to selling out?
I expect a lot of fans are saving funds for going to the championship game against Alabama

Well, according to the selection committee comments (and their rankings) they've made the big ten championship game about as meaningful as an NFL preseason game with regard to the playoff, so......... ;)

There will still be a decent amount of Penn St fans there but not as if it was being played in NYC, DC, or Philly.

The TV ratings will suck as well.

So you are a Michigan dickhead, huh?

Considering the Big Ten championship game took place the same time as the ACC championship game, very good ratings.

Penn State/Wisconsin scored a 5.3 final rating and 9.2 million viewers in Saturday’s Big Ten Championship on FOX, up 51% and 50% respectively from Ohio State/Wisconsin in 2014 (3.5, 6.2M).

The Nittany Lions’ win ranks third out of the six Big Ten title games (dates back to 2011). It also ranks third all-time among college football telecasts on FOX, excluding bowls, behind the same two games.

The Big Ten Championship scored the second-best college football numbers of the weekend, behind the SEC Championship earlier in the day (6.6, 11.1M) and ahead of the concurrent ACC Championship on ABC (3.3, 5.3M). It scored the sixth-largest audience of the season and the second-largest Big Ten audience.
