Reported on the news here in Johnstown the wrestling team 2 years probation and all other sports 1 year.I heard three years probation...which means if there is any issues during the next three years, the program can be show down. Also, an assistant coach was suspended from the school for one year.
So what did someone do?
Yes. That’s what has been reported.I think a junior high coach texted a kid from another school about the benefits of McCort’s feeder program. That coach is suspended.
I think two schools filed complaints against McCort.
Maybe Johnstown Steel can confirm as I’m not from that area.
I read a different article. It said a parent of middle and elementary school kids was contacted by text. It also said a kid was illegally practicing at the facility.Might want to re-read that. Principal said multiple elementary and middle school kids contacted.
I hate that wrestling is getting called out specifically. Contact schools in D3 and ask about football recruiting (ask about the "rock pile"). It happens across the country.2 schools filed complaints - Forest Hills and Westmont. Article I read said only one jr high student was contacted by the coach. I find it odd that 2 schools would file if one wasn't even involved.
Seems kinda harsh for what they got busted for. Wonder if there is more there than what is being reported.Seems like just last year when Guns proclaimed how Shad Benton was gonna turn McCort into a power. Wait, it was just last year.
That didn't last long. Benton fired today, replaced with 2 co-coaches, John Rizzo one of them.

Also curious as to how this affects their recruiting.
NoVa -- I think he meant firing the coaches. They got put on probation which means unless they break rules again they get NO actual punishment. I don't see probation as being harsh unless they didn't do anything.

That is what I meant. Sorry I wasn't clear on that. I wasn't aware why he got canned from State College.NoVa -- I think he meant firing the coaches.
Ah, maybe so. Well, since Benton already got fired from State College for using ineligible wrestlers IMHO he violated his probation even though he may not have been officially on probation since that was some years ago.
Pretty certain it had nothing to do with eligibility and nothing that severe (of things that he was actually doing.) He was still able to keep his teaching position within the district after his firing. Main issue was with two sets of parents complaining enough to the AD at the time. There was more to it than just what was written above. Not PIAA or eligibility issues but pretty bad stuff
