Anyone want to share their signature Bloody Mary recipe?

Going to be making a batch for the Nova game and want to do something other than opening a bottle of Mrs. T's mix.

Just go total gross-out and make some Caesars.

"The Caesar, also known as the Bloody Caesar, is considered Canada's national cocktail. The key ingredients are vodka, clam juice, tomato juice, spices and Worcestershire sauce. It is typically served in a highball glass rimmed with celery salt and garnished with a celery stalk, olives and lime."

Throw away your mix. Get a few bottles of passata -- read the ingredients list and it will say "organic tomatoes" and nothing else. Wegman's is a good brand.

Dump a bottle of passata into your Vitamix. Then refill the passata bottle at least half full with vodka ($15/bottle is fine for this recipe), then to taste add black pepper, horseradish, Tabasco, lemon juice (fresh squeezed please!), worcestershire sauce....shake the bottle and add it to the Vitamix. Add some ice. Blend to perfection.

Extra credit for making ice cubes with pure tomato juice.

Double extra credit for using a skewer of alternating cheese and pepperoni cubes as garnish.

The best BM I have ever had was a McCready's in Charleston SC (it closed at or near the beginning of the pandemic). The recipe they used is amazingly simple - it just would not be ready for the Nova game:
Step 1 - grow your own tomatoes (hence why this will not be ready for the Nova game) or get fresh tomatoes from a friend/local farm whatever.
Step 2 - grow your own chili peppers - whatever spice level you like or get them from a friend/local farm.
Step 3 - roast said tomatoes and hot peppers, allow to steam/cool then peel.
Step 4 - place the roasted tomatoes and peppers in a blender and blend. Obviously if you like it spicier add more peppers.
Step 5 - add all the vodka you like and whatever brand you like.
Step 6 - pour over cubes and enjoy!

No garnish, no salt, no worcestershire, no bacon, no pickled asparagus...NOTHING other than tomato, pepper and vodka

Did you ever try a Bloody Bull -life altering - the beef bullion makes it soooo good. Incredible when eaten with a cheeseburger and cup o' chili
Ingredients:
  • 2 ounces vodka
  • 2 ounces tomato juice
  • 2 ounces prepared beef bouillon
  • 1/2 ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • 3 dashes Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 dashes Tabasco sauce
  • 1 pinch Kosher salt
  • 1 pinch coarsely ground black pepper
  • Garnish: to taste - I go with green olives and celery stalk

I don't have a recipe, but use Charleston Bloody Mary Mix when I'm in the mood. It's great out of the bottle; they opt for habanero pepper for heat and apple cider vinegar to bring it all together. Comes in two styles - 'Fresh & Veggie' and 'Bold & Spicy'. My wife went to HS with the owner (Neshaminy, PA). It's solid - great with vodka or a Corona.

Honestly, there are enough good (and varied) bottles mixes out there that I never make my own from scratch. The juice is not worth the squeeze (pun intended).

The big difference in mixes (beyond quality) is whether it is horseradish focused or pepper focused. I like both my partner is anti-horseradish (she wins).

Some brands I like: Zatarains, George's, and most states have a local-ish one.

I also find that the proper rim salt makes a huge difference. Smoky Bair is the best I've had.

Also, there is no point in using super expensive vodka for bloody marys. I find that Tito's or Deep Eddy is good enough to avoid hangovers but at a fairly low price point.

Zing Zang, and now in cans so you don’t have to open an entire bottle. I also like Famous Dave’s Devil’s Spit Bloody Mary mix but that is not for MaconNitt as he has tender lips!:p:p:p

Pro tip -- take any inexpensive bottle of vodka -- and by definition, vodka is colorless, odorless, and tasteless. A $10 bottle if fine. Use a Brita water filter and run it through about 5 times. Toss the filter, of course, and that vodka will be as good or better than what you would pay five times as much.

I would disagree that all vodka is tasteless. You can go to a vodka tasting (especially at a Russian bar) and definitely tell the difference.

Your point is correct when it comes to mixed drinks with vodka and you are also correct about the filtration. However, brita filters aren't cheap and some people have filtration in their refrigerators and no need for a filter pitcher. Deep eddy goes for about $15 per bottle and it's worth the $5 more to not have to deal with the filtration step yourself.

Make it easier on yourself - switch to grapefruit juice and Omeprazole.

Simple (lazy man's) recipe.
Big glass, ice , Smirnoff vodka or other vodka with a bite/taste (no grey goose or other darn near tasteless vodka), and spicy hot V-8. Add a piece of celery if you want to fancy it up.

I’m thinking don’t overthink the drink, have fun with the goodies to top it with. That’s where to get creative……

Add bacon and I'm there.

I use to make my own. Now I use Zing Zang. Best out of a bottle I have ever had. Great stuff.

I loved them when I was on my honeymoon in Banff and Jasper. Doubt I could get one here in the US.

I don't want to ruin a "culinary" thread but I had a sip of one in Toronto awhile back and it was not a good reaction.

I don't care for bloody Marys but I'll admit some of this talk made me think there's hope. Beef bullion could help I think. But not clamato!!! Ahhh!

Canada's national food on the other hand... Man I need way more poutine in my life!! Theres a place in the Lightnings Arena in Tampa that has the best poutine and I'm tempted to buy tix just to pig out. All the food in the box section is doody compared to Smoke's Poutinerie.

I've had that mix...it is pretty tasty.

I've had that vodka too ( the Poles know vodka) but not sure I know the price point. Might be overkill for bloodys.

I don't measure, but like them spicy. Start with spicy V8, horseradish, Worcestershire, seasoning salt, fresh ground pepper, maybe some garlic salt & Old Bay seasoning and vodka of choice.
