Don’t look now, but the start of Penn State football’s 2019 spring practice is right around the corner. Drills are slated to begin March 13 and conclude with the Blue-White Game at Beaver Stadium April 13.
Kickoff for the Blue-White Game has been set for 3 p.m. Eastern. There will be no live television for the game, but it will be shown on a tape-delayed basis at 8 p.m. on BTN that same day.
The radio call of the game featuring Steve Jones and Jack Ham will be carried live on the Penn State Sports Network and streamed live right here.
There is no admission fee for the Blue-White Game. Meanwhile, Penn State has released the following information regarding parking for the event:
Season ticket and season parking permit holders from the 2018 season received a white 2019 Blue-White Game parking permit with their 2018 season tickets and parking last summer.
Fans attending the Blue-White Game who did not have 2018 season tickets and a season parking permit will be charged $20 for parking.
Beginning Friday, March 1, car parking can be purchased for $20 in advance by visiting the Bryce Jordan Center ticket office from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. In-person purchases can be made until 6 p.m. Friday, April 12. Parking on Blue-White Game day is cash only.
In 2018, an estimated crowd of 71,000 attended Penn State’s Blue-White Game. The event has drawn 50,000 fans or more in eight of the last 10 seasons.
James Franklin’s team is coming off a 2018 campaign in which it went 9-4 and dropped a 27-24 decision to Kentucky in the Citrus Bowl. Youth will be a theme in the spring, as the Nittany Lions must replace their all-time leading passer (Trace McSorley), 2018’s leading rusher (Miles Sanders) as well as nine other positional starters.
The highlight of the spring figures to be the battle to replace McSorley, which will feature veteran Tommy Stevens and redshirt sophomore Sean Clifford. The Blue-White Game will also be the first time Nittany Lion fans will have a chance to see the 11 early enrollees who joined the program in January in action at Beaver Stadium.
Franklin’s staff will also feature two new faces this spring as Gerad Parker is taking over for the fired David Corley as wide receivers coach and a yet-to-be-named-replacement will take over for departed special teams coordinator Phil Galiano (he went to the NFL’s New Orleans Saints).
Penn State opens the 2019 season against Idaho at Beaver Stadium Aug. 31. It will be Franklin's sixth season at the helm of the program, and the previous five all ended with winning records and bowl bids.
