The magazine discusses how well Levi did at Flo Wrestling who's number 1 event, beating top ranked Josh Barr at 160 pounds. The accompanying article
indicates that freshman Alex Facundo is expected to wrestle this season at 165-Carter Sarocci, defending national champ, is at 174 and is still listed as a redshirt sophomore.
Question is at what Levi is expected to wrestle at PSU as I assume he is enrolling in the Fall, 2022. Thank you.

Seems he'll either have to wrestle off at 157 against Joe Lee, 165 against Facundo, or get huge, take a GS/RS option and jump into a gap if CS and AB move up.

Let's wait and see what weight he wrestles at states and at any postseason events.

He did just go 160 at WNO and Super 32, so that's a reasonable guess. But at the rate he's been growing, that's not a given by the end of the year.

Willie just dropped Levi Haines to #13 P4P. No top 10 PSU recruits this year unless we cut Willie another check :)

If that ranking holds, and Mendez goes elsewhere, it would be the first time in Caels career at PSU that he didn't land a Top 10 PFP. Maybe Cael isn't trying because he knows he's leaving. 😉

Frustrating that basic fact checking is a lost art in journalism. Cstar will be a freshman again because last year did not count against eligibility. A fact the BW Illustrated author should certainly have been aware of. Reminds me of a recent article (think is was CDT) that listed wrestlers who had transfered as probable starters. Can’t these folks verify anything?

In this day and age? Research is for Wussies.

Yeah, and I think this has been noted before about his dad Ken

Ken Haines, who went 29-0 and won the PIAA 189-pound championship for Gettysburg in 1995, will replace Nate Becker as the Canners' wrestling coach. Haines wrestled in college for Division I Lock Haven University, where he won an Eastern Wrestling League title at 197 pounds in 1999. Since returning to Adams County, he's been an assistant coach at Gettysburg High School and Gettysburg College and a coach at Fairfield High School.

Our roster might have something to do with it.

Steen (fr), Howard (fr), Bartlett (fr), Van Ness (fr), Barraclough (fr), Joe Lee (fr), Matt Lee (fr), Facundo (fr), Starocci (fr), Brooks (so), Beard (fr), Kerkvliet (fr)

True -- and Ken's brother Chris wrestled 165 at Lock Haven. So I'd guess that 165 is Levi's absolute floor, and he'll probably grow past that, though hard to say right now that he'll get to 197.

Levi guessed 174/184 ... haha. He said he's growing 25 pounds a year. He's also very young. Some pointed out how insane it is him and Bo Bassett were on a Cadet Team together when he's entering college in less than a year.

On the flip side of that Cael wrestled 197 his senior year in college. His brother Cody wrestled 133 his senior year in college. IOW it's a crap shoot.

Haines would have to amputate a leg or transfer to OKST to make 133.
True that. I was just showing that looking at parents or siblings to determine what weight class someone will be at is far from being an exact science. :)

I also wrestled Cael at 119 lbs in hs! Hard to say where a kid will end up but I definitely see Levi above 165.

Do you recall any memories from that match that you can share?
Of course. He won obviously but it was semi close. 7-3 I think. It was the biggest tournament in the area with teams from CO, Utah, Wyoming, New Mexico, and CA. He was a freshman and I was a Junior who had placed 4th and 3rd in state the 2 previous years. We met in the semis and he ended up winning the tournament and I took 3rd. I have the match on VCR somewhere. Me being from CO and the same age as Cody I saw the Sanderson family at multiple tournaments each year. The thing that stuck out was just how humble they all were with the amount of success they all had. A truly special family.
