BRADY GETS FOUR GAME SUSPENSION!

Pats fined 1 million, lose 2016 first round and 2017 4th rounder. Some people here kept saying it was going to be a slap on the wrist. I was thinking he might get 8.

The appeal might eliminate a game or two. The rest will probably stand. Wow.

I'm not a Brady or Pats fan, but this is another media driven penalty. 2 games tops and a 6th round pick seems about right...if that. That report was based on assumptions and I can't hold that report in any higher regard than the Freeh report. NFL and NCAA must have some great dart boards when it comes to dishing out punishment once the media gets behind something.

I believe it was a slap on wrist. Brady and pats cheated again and goodell condoned it. The nonsense in the ravens game which requires more officials that know the rules watch the pats and more concussion observers so that the Pats don't have a player die on the field. Everyone in the world except for a pats coaches noticed edelmen was out. How many concussion checkers and rules officials will the NFL have to hire and pay because the pats can't stop cheating.

Not sure if the penalty was warranted or not. I really do not understand how an "under inflated" ball does not affect both QBs, in a good way. I understand it makes the ball easier to grip? Now, if I am wrong and it did give the Pats a real advantage, then the penalties seem very fair. Especially if you hope to send out a message against any form of cheating.

Each team has their own set of game balls.

Based on an assumption? Didn't they find multiple texts from two equipment guys talking about deflating the balls and referencing Brady? I believe there was also a text from Brady.

I think the penalty is correct since Brady lied about it when questioned and the Pats are repeat offenders.

But the standard of proof in these instances is only by a preponderance of the evidence. That was met. This isn't a criminal trial requiring proof beyond a reasonable doubt. The combination of consistently underinflated balls that were the proper weight when inspected, the texts referencing deflating the balls and getting things from Brady in return, Brady not contacting by phone for months, then suddenly contacting them 6 times in the days immediately after the scandal broke, etc all provide plenty of evidence towards meeting the proper standard of more likely than not.

Well, we're back to agreeing on at least something! Very good points, in my opinion.

Did those texts state take it below the legal limit? He may have said keep them at the lowest possible legal limit as I don't recall the texts coming out with a hard number (maybe they did?). Don't forget that the Colt's balls also lost air on that same day due to the cold weather. They only tested 4 or so of the Colt's balls versus 10 or so of the Pat's balls. I'm not a Pats fan, but the NFL much like the NCAA has a dartboard for fines and penalties and they f--k them up all the time because they are not consistent. I have no doubt he told them to let some air out, but it was not really proven. Give him 2 games, take a 6th round pick and lessons are learned. This was a media driven grandstanding penalty. I'm not a big fan of those, but others may be.

The Brady 4 game suspension doesn't surprise me but the Pats losing a 1st round pick does. I think they should have come down harder on Brady and less hard on the team. From what I read, other than those two lower rung guys helping Brady, the Pats weren't complicit in this.

I think it is really good that the NFL will come down on whoever does bad, star or not. I don't think people appreciate enough that the positives for the NFL are the game itself and its integrity, not the people that happen to be stars at a given time. Any NFL star, no matter how big, needs the NFL much, much more than the NFL needs the star. The NFL game creates stars and just keeping the game fair and interesting is all the NFL has to do.

If Tom Brady never decided to play pro football there wouldn't be a big hole where his four Super Bowl wins were. Instead there would have been other great games with other great players that would have become the stars.

What was wrong with what they did in the Ravens game?

the eligible receiver nonsense. Belicheck wanted to show everyone that he was a genius with the eligible receiver nonsense, whereas the other coaches in the NFL had more respect for the game to try it. It wasn't all belichek's fault it was more the refs, that's what harbaugh was most angry about.

Ok. Not technically against the rules tho right? I personally found it a little funny watching everyone freak out and look around like WTF.

Cincy, to be fair the Freeh report, which LaJolla makes reference to, was not technically a criminal investigation either.

Troy Vincent=Butthurt former Eagle. All his buddies were on 04 team Pats beat. Brady will get games knocked off on appeal.

Tom wouldn't turn his phone over to investigators. They know who he texted and when. What does that say? That's an easy way to clear your name if you're innocent

I think the 4 games stand after an unsuccessful appeal. Heard that had he fessed back in January, it would have been a $25,000 fine, and that's it. The league was pissed that he acted like an entitled punk by not cooperating with their investigation. I guess the pervasive "rules don't apply to me" culture in foxboro eventually rubs off on you if you stick around long enough.

That paragon of virtue the NFL would never leak any information if Brady gave them his phone....LOL..
Do you really believe that? Or just hate the Pats/Brady??

Heard a really good explanation by Ryan Clark tonight. 'In Foxboro there is a win-at-all-costs mentality. In Pittsburgh there is a win-within-the-rules so we know we are better than you mentality.' He also said it is common knowledge around the league that New England Cheats, they look for ways around and loop-holes in the rules and then they exploit them. They do things no other team would even consider doing.

Those are some VERY harsh words from an ex-player, and one that holds quite a bit of respect around the league.

True, and more likely than not was the correct standard there too. It's just that Freeh arrived at his conclusion incorrectly

The team who's team doctor sells HGH??? LOL......Too funny:):) Many former players dead because they pumped more steroids into their bodies than the E. German's Swim Team.

I doubt Ryan Clark was referring to either the Sterlets or Patriots cultures of the 70s, so not sure what that rebuttal contradicts

One would think with a lawyer present what the NFL had access to would be limited. Obviously they were not going to look at his entire phone texts/records. If the texts and calls he made to equipment managers were innocent he would surely hand those texts over...no?

I don't "hate" any professional athlete, but Brady has always been hard to stomach. If you're as good as he is, why even put yourself out there to potentially get caught? Why give people any ammo at all to question the validity of ANY of your accomplishments? Clark and a lot of other NFL players have eluded to the win at all costs mentality in foxboro for years...they're not a very well respected organization in many circles.

Oh, and it wasn't about the league leaking information...hell, kraft's good buddy Goodell burned the spygate tapes so the organization could save a little face during their last skirting of the rules. Tommy thought he was above league scrutiny, and his hubris rightfully bit him in the ass.

Good ell burnt the Spygate tapes because he didn't want other teams to benefit from them. Once info is broadcast, you can't destroy it. He did release examples of what was on there.

Even if nothing on his phone doesn't prove his innocence. Just means info wasn't there. Any discussion Brady had with equip guy on how to handle footballs was done face to face. Not electronically.
