Here are some audio clips you might or might not enjoy.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">“You don’t like tough wrestling” 😂😂😂 we added subtitles to clip posted by <a href="https://twitter.com/DPSBreakdowns?ref_src=twsrc^tfw">@DPSBreakdowns</a> yesterday. <a href="https://t.co/Ey2LwINyGU">pic.twitter.com/Ey2LwINyGU</a></p>&mdash; StaleMates (@stalematesshow) <a href="">March 8, 2021</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

I don't know if these people exist or not, but if you hate Gable for what he said vs Parris, but like this, then you a a plain whacko.

Personally, I find this a bit embarrasing, but not surprising in the least. I definitely prefer Brands' press conferences to Sanderson ones though.

What is the point of this?

It's bad enough when PSU fans start threads complaining about other teams' wrestlers/coaches/fans. It's even worse when the thread is started by fans of that other team...

Terry can wear on you. But man he is a train wreck I will always sign up to watch.

as far as recruiting goes their segment is getting smaller and smaller. Only so many kids and parents going to enjoy that.

I also think there is an inevitable woody or bobby knight moment that ends their careers.

It's really a Terry thing. Tom is much more in control of himself. Probably why he's the head coach.

I actually really enjoy listening to Tom in the corner. He was really interesting to listen to during the Cass-Kerk match when you could hear everything he said.

The only time I like listening to Terry (I'm pretty sure it's Terry though the masks complicate things) is when he's coaching Nelson because they have a very natural father-son chemistry. There was a moment where Nelson was on bottom and put his head on the mat and Terry just started yelling "Hey, no way, no way" and Nelson immediately shot out of a cannon and escaped.

I hope not. Woody lost it at the end of his career, and Knight was always on the edge (winning was one reason his career lasted as long as it did).

I have so much respect for (almost) all of the coaches in D1 wrestling. What fans see more than anything else is the on-mat behavior, which could and should be addressed by the referees.

When PSU runs off its next string of national titles it will be f*n watching the Hawk fans turn on the Brands boys. They will be calling for Iowa to hire Spencer as their coach.

It will happen...

Agreed, Spencer will stay down there to train for Freestyle, eventually move on to the staff and replace them, but I don't see that playing out for another 6-10 years.

When all is said and done they make a movie about how one recruit changed the face of that program.

I still remember the day he announced, boy was I bummed. I followed him for years and just couldn't see him in anything but blue and white. I will believe forever that had we not landed Suriano, Cael would have redoubled his efforts and made sure we got Spencer. I think under Cael's wing he may have made a run at 159-0 4xer.

We dont know what Spencer's plan will be but do recall him saying he wanted to be an Athletic Director one day. I agree with you in that I see the Brands brothers coaching Iowa for at least another 6 years. The crying from Hawk fans to replace them with Spencer tho will begin in 3 or 4.... lol

The other thing to remember is that although they don't really look it, the Brands bros turn 53 in a month. They could easily just be ready to retire in the next 5-10 years. I'd be surprised if they didn't leave on their own terms.

I dont disagree with any of it and to be honest I believe they are great coaches and will leave on their own terms. Having said that though, if PSU starts running off National championships again, fans will start turning on them. I saw it just a few years ago over on HR when they had people bickering at each other whether they should be replaced or not. It would only get worse if there is someone like Spencer Lee out there to replace them. Throw Morningstar in there as well....he took a beating at times from your own fans. They were really hard on him and Iowas Pennsylvania recruiting haul finally got him a reprieve.

Speaking of bizarre ends to legendary coaching careers, who else misses those JRob Camp commericals?

I have no problem with the initial post or the OP. It was fun to listen to. I never would have heard it if not for here. I'm not much of a twitter guy.

Good show on SL on BTN. 1 thing Larry said amused me. 4 years ago SL made it known he wanted to win 4 indy’s and 4 team titles. Now conveniently Larry claims Spencer said he “wanted to be a 4xer and win AT LEAST TWO TEAM TITLES”

I think the kid has many world/oly titles to win before he jumps to coaching.

that's god awful. I'm embarrassed for him. (and I know he's not embarrassed)
he's out of control, and I agree someday that will endly badly for him...

Can he coach and be AD at the same time? Cost saving move so the inner circle can increase the size of the Kool-Aid bowl at the next pre match social

Oh, man, I do not agree with this. Leave and do what? They don't have the same soft skills Gable does, in being able to pivot to Wrestling Ambassador.

Their youthfulness + fitness + energy puts these bros on that JRob train: they're not gonna leave the practice room until one of two things happens:
a. Something JRob / Knight / Hayes related as discussed above
b. Not enough recruiting (b/c the NextGen Spencer & Papa Lees aren't interested in gifting their talents to their brands of personality) + Zalesky-esque postseason results + somebody young & famous ready to take over

I like your work, but I just cannot picture them wanting to leave on their own terms, especially within 15 years.

I’ll take the under on that.

You'd be surprised by how chill and funny they are when they're not in the corner.

Doesn't that sort of underscore the point that they seem kooky and off-putting? If they are capable of using their inside voices when it suits them, they should be capable of not popping off with bat #!&% crazy stuff when representing the team and university when in public.

I think a switch flips during competition. Also, since the original poster mentioned Gable, he was basically the same as the Brands bros in the corner. There is literally a statue of him in the iconic pose he struck when berating officials lol.

Hahahahahahahaha. Yep, just like Cael has led all these other 125 pounders to unbeaten 4 time National Champion accolades. Sometimes you guys are hilarious. Respect to your wrestlers but to say Carl would do better with a 25 pounder than Tom and Terry just makes you look dumb.

Wrestling to the Brands boys is more like a fistfight than a ballet. Some don't like it, most of us love it. It suits our blue collar, roll up your sleeves and go to work attitudes.

If you want to see hilarious check out HR the last 10 years.

But you already knew that, didn’t you??

Agreed on the timeline. Those two guys both have the burning need to win -- and at least for the foreseeable future, winning would just re-ignite that flame.

Whenever that day comes ... TnT are both listed as "advisers" to HWC, and I could very easily see that role being more formalized. Could also see Tom taking on a Rich Lorenzo-type fundraising role in behalf of the program. He'd need some help from University Development with contracts and a little smoothing of edges with high-end donors. But the passion is absolutely there, and that's more than half of the battle.

Besides, if I were Coach Spencer, I would absolutely want them around the program in some capacity.
