Some wrestling teams like to have fun. But it is well established that the best-coached programs have a blast. But don't just take it from me. Says Iowa Hawkeye wrestling coach Tom Brands, "We're having a blast, man. We're having a blast."

What was your blast of the week? Vote above, or write-in your own event.

For those unfamiliar with Rachal -- he's the Illini 285 who has a penchant for "pulling guys onto his chest" in spectacularly painful fashion (see match vs. Sam Stoll last month). He did it again Friday vs. Nebraska, but still came out throwing vs. Northwestern today. This write-up describing the latest in the Deuce Rachal saga is kind of humorous: LINK.

There's something endearing about this kid. I'm a fan.

The twitter beef between Storniolo and Martinez might merit some votes.

Basically, the Illinois visitors' locker room should be condemned, and saying so is "disrespecting my house."

Iron Sheed is tremendous work Slush.

Weird, though, didn't see last night's Columbia Buffalo dual on that list. So here's what you jabronis all missed.

I have always liked Columbia's uniforms. That is a cool blue. The Navy Blue (sorry PSU guys) is so over used and common.

Once upon a time, our (PSU) colors were Pink and Black. I'll take the Blue & White.

You're right though, they aren't the "coolest" colors...whatever that means :).

Pink and black? Pics?
Traditions

Blue and White
Penn State's student-athletes are instantly identified by their blue and white uniforms - but those weren't the original school colors. A three-member committee representing the sophomore, junior and senior classes was appointed in October of 1887 to develop color options from which the student body would select the school's official colors. Dark pink and black was the unanimous choice of the student body after considering the color combinations presented by the committee.
Soon many students and the baseball team were sporting pink and black striped blazers and caps. However, problems arose when the pink faded to white after several weeks of exposure to the sun. The students then opted for blue, rather than black, and white. The official announcement of the new choice was made on March 18, 1890.

Also this from onwardstate.com...
Penn State first began playing football competitively in 1887, but did not have a head coach. In fact, the team didn’t even have a stadium. The teams played its home games on the Old Main lawn on campus, and sported dark pink and black uniforms, the school’s original colors. The 1887 team became the school’s first undefeated team, going 2-0 against Bucknell. The team is also the only unscored-upon team in school history, winning both games by a combined total of 78-0.

The basketball team did a throwback jersey. To my recollection that is the only time I have seen the colors.

Columbia is my home wrestling team and I've always been partial to their colors since they're similar to Carolina Tarheels, of whom I was a fan back when I watched basketball. Also highly recommend getting to a Columbia football game at some Saturday in the fall, as the stadium is located at the very northern tip of Manhattan, where it meets Marble Hill in the Bronx. Beautiful view, easy to get to via subway.

re Penn State's uniforms, I love the simplicity and color scheme. For newer teams/schools it wouldn't work but there's something to be said for keeping your classics classic. Trends come and go but Yankee pinstripes, Alabama's numbers on the side of their helmets, Detroit's flying spoked-wheel logo, etc. persist. I'm sure Cowbell Man would agree that if the Nittany Lion mascot was updated into some carnivorous cartoon, there'd be something lost. Even if navy blue is now common, it's cool knowing you were one of the first to adopt it.

Somebody could get creative with a pink marker..

My girlfriend loves Pink and black. Most of her Hawkeye attire is in that combo of colors. Me not so much

Deluca / Hayes was the most enjoyable blast of the weekend for me. 1) a ranked Bucknut goes down hard 2) a spectacular finish you don't see very often
