Break up the Phillies

I said "can't miss" sometimes miss too, but it is at least a lot less likely than getting 3 prospects who are in a teams 4-10. Look at the group that has come up this year alone (Bryants, Correas, Pedersons of the world) and helped their clubs, if you don't get a guy with that level talent don't trade him. period.

Depreciating in the sense that we are all depreciating, sure. Depreciating compared to what else is out there, no. 3 more years of control at a reasonable price. He'll be just as valuable in the offseason or at next years deadline. Get a top talent prospect or keep him.

What if an offer with a Bryant/Correa/Pederson never arrives?

Did the Blue Jays cut them? How did they end up on other teams?

Villar is stuck behind Altuve and Correa, do you know who they are?
Trades. But that means they did not want them any more. And given that I was *at* the All Star game, yes I do know who those guys are.... Villar has no proven track record in the bigs. And "the market" usually takes account of that.

Jays traded D'Arnaud for CY Young winner RA Dickey, they didn't decide 'they did not want' him

Next time youre *at* the All Star game check out the Futures Game, usually played the Sunday before the game

Along with a bunch of other guys--who may or may not pan out. And that's the point.

I did go to the Futures Game, BTW. Saw Crawford and Nola--the latter did not pay due to pitching rules in place. Crawford made a nice play at short in his time in the game.

I agree with cutting the cord with Howard and Utley, but Ruiz is one of the best catchers from a calling the game perspective. He's absolutely a guy I want to have when I'm rebuilding.

With a young pitching staff, he could still be very useful. Catchers are often an extra coach--good ones anyway.

Money actually isn't a problem for the Phils--they are now getting to be in the bottom half of salaries, according to ESPN. I think Lee comes off the books at the end of this season as (likely) does Utley.

just a general response to this thread

I agree with the 'keep Cole if you don't get value concept'. I laugh at other teams and fans who think that the Phils are salary dumping and should just take lesser prospects.

100%
Still think Mazara will come back in a Rangers trade and that is going to be a trade that could go a long way to speeding this process up. There is no can't miss prospects like Tom was saying but he is close. He is going to be a star. Then think about a future headed up by Franco, Crawford and Mazara. That's possibly one heck of a core to build on.

Oh, and the 6 game streak and now this, so much fun. Guys like Franco and Nola are still keeping this fun. This team was never good but they hated Sandberg and it was so obvious. He had no respect from the team and he was the most passive manager I've ever seen. Big sigh of relief when he walked out like the crap manager he was.

Surprise, they seem to love Mackanin and everyone loosens up and now the team isn't a disaster.

Hamels is a known commodity and from what I have seen, other teams are not willing to pony up with enough talent that the Phils need. Too many teams blow up what they have before it has a chance to gel. Unfortunately, the losses of Victorino, Werth, and Pence really impacted the Phils quite a bit. As well as the Big 3 getting old and injured.

Yep and that would be a nightmare situation if it happened with Hamels. At one point we "could have" moved Lee part II, Halladay, Utley. Utley might not have ever accepted a trade. They broke down like people do when they age. All were well conditioned like Cole. Hamels has a lot of innings. They need to get younger.

Still don't get how Amaro got screwed so badly in the Pence trade. He is a really good player and he got shit on in the return.
