Brent Pry update....

This wouldn't be great news for Penn State, as Pry is a talented coach, but the program isn't built solely on his (or Moorhead's) shoulders. If not this job, Pry would likely leave for a head coach position at some point. I expect that Franklin has a list of very qualified coaches that could come in as DC or even be promoted from within. Not a shot as Pry at all, but this is an opportunity to get even better, coaching wise.

You can look at this two ways. 1) we lost two assistants off our staff who took anhead coaching job. 2) Franklin has established PSU as a place where excellent assistants can come and prove themselves and turn themselves into head coaching candidates. Will suck to see Pry go. But it is fairly clear that the coordinator positions at PSU aregrear proving grounds and Franklin will have many excellent choices RE who to fill the spot.

Seems to me this is a sign of a thriving program on its way up.

The fact that he might not take the job is telling regarding the pay level for that head coaching job and the benefit of being a coordinator at Penn State. Look at the jobs some of the other top coordinators from power conferences are getting these days. I think Pry can do better for himself if he stays another year or two. He's a young guy - doesn't have to jump at first head coaching gig.

Being selfish, I would like him to stay for as long as possible. As long as he is good. If he starts to suck, then off with his head!
No, you have to figure out exactly when he will start to suck and then get rid of him just before... in fact, maybe it's better to separate his head from his torso a season early than to have him suck for just one game!

I don’t see both coordinators leaving other top tier programs. Top tier should be in quotes I imagine. Subjective

Agree with others that this may not be the end of the world, and assistant coaches getting itnerest is an overall good sign about the program.

But if I'm Franklin (which I'm not) I'm hoping for more longevity than 2 years with the next coordinators.

Actually, I would hope he’d receive consideration
I don't think he'd leave Ohio State for a lateral but I agree 100% with the sentiment. I think GS is an all right not great head man - but as a D Coord he would be superior.

I'm fine with our coordinators moving on up. Not thrilled with both leaving in the same year - that can ruin your continuity. But if Pry goes for a head job, then he goes. We'll bring in top notch replacements - and if they don't pan out, then CJF will replace the replacements.

The players know what's up. I don't think anybody is going to get cold feet because their prospective coach got a head job.

If we become an Elite, year after year Top 10 program....we will lose coordinators regularly. That is where other programs go to get their coaches. It isn't much of a compliment if no other programs want to hire your coordinators.

How many OCs and DCs has Urban Meyer had at Ohio State? Has it slowed them down? Franklin is the lead dog.

The other thing is that you will attract the best and the brightest when they know that your program has the visibility to get them head coaching spots.

Soooo...this type and form of speculation could be helpful in securing more money for a coordinator, No?

Missed a great opportunity, Bob. :eek:Suggestion should have been to persuade LJ not to (supposedly) retire and HIRE HIM as the DC!

OL :p

Actually, I'm waiting for Penn State to offer the job to Schiano and then back out, citing that a deeper review revealed his knowledge of sandusky.
