Last seen beating 3 straight returning state champs in Hershey ...

Today won Flonats with a 14-6 MD win over Iowa commit Justin Mejia (3x CA state champ, ranked #2 nationally) in the finals. 5 matches, 3 majors and 2 pins.

Wow kid is going to be a great one...Hope we can somehow make room for him. May be a great 33 or 41 pound guy after a red shirt.....What weight did he wrestle today ????

Marinelli gets pasted by Mark Hall and the Hawkeyes other top recruit gets taken apart by a Pennsylvania kid, Brian Courtney who's emerging as a giant KILLER. I'll let the average fan make simple deductions about the state of Hawkeye recruiting... and the trajectory isn't up.

120 today.

Never say never, but don't see him coming here. He's been working out at Cornell for years. It's under an hour from home. He works out regularly with Yianni, who's already committed to Cornell. If not there, he's also friends with the many D4 guys at Lehigh.

From PSU perspective: we hope to lead off with Teasdale, Lee, and Suriano. If Courtney outgrows 141, that puts him into Zain-Nick Lee-Joe Lee-Anvil territory. And we need money for the 2018 class.

So when you're ready El-Jefe and others, please remind us of the 2018 targets. Thanks

Wow, Courtney has just blown up of late. Very, very impressive. And to think he's from Athens, not that far from where I grew up.

Too bad he's probably Cornell bound, but it's understandable - Ithaca is about 40 minutes from Athens.

I get where you're coming from, but Marinelli and Mejia are very good recruits. 4X champ in Ohio and 3X champ in California is not chopped liver.

Joe Lee -- has already verballed

Beyond that, anybody listed is just a fan's wish list, as the coaches are very guarded about this stuff.

Some names to keep in mind:

Gavin Teasdale (PA)
Sammy Sasso (PA)
Michael Beard (PA)
Seth Nevills (CA)
Gable Steveson (MN)
David Carr (OH)
Trent Hidlay (PA)
Francis Duggan (PA)
Gavin Hoffman (PA)
Robert Patrick (PA)

PSU will not land, or even go after, all of those guys. Several of the guys in the above list are projected to wrestle the same weight in college, so if PSU lands 1 of them, then the others will not be heading to PSU. (For example, Steveson, Nevills, and probably Duggan are likely to wrestle 285 in college, so there's no need (or room or money) for more than 1 of them.) To some degree their interest will be based on who is at what weight in 2018. Cortez, Nolf, Nickal, and Nick Nevills will all be heading into their last year of eligibility in 2018-19, so unless their replacements are already on the roster (due to growth by others, or recruiting in 2017), then the focus will likely be to land replacements for the aforementioned.

He wrestled 120 at FloNationals
The weights at these post season events are misleading. The weight was 120 with a 5lb allowance and they weighed in the night before and only weigh in once for a two day tournament so you will see a lot of wrestlers down a weight like Courtney who wrestled 126 at AA States with a weigh in every day. It's smart.

Thanks El-Jeff, Tom and others.
Good reminders regarding our 2018 targets.

Brian Courtney gets his own thread on BWI - that's officially putting Athens on the map!

Seriously, though, kid is killing it and making himself a legend back home. Everyone is talking about him, talk of the town and more. I told him that last weekend and all he did was smile. Man of few words he is, and anyone who says they know where he's going is getting ahead of theirselves.

Hawkeye fans can't be feeling too good right now. Their two top recruits both get majored in 2 week period. If they don't get Lee they'll be jumping off bridges.

I'm glad they're Iowa's recruits. I'll leave it at that.

And Kem Dawg as Iowa fans like to refer to him was a good recruit. He's got Isaiah Martinez and Jason Nolf waiting for him. Welcome to the BIG Ten... Kem Dawg.

Speaking of Lee...I'd like to see him wrestle Courtney with the hot streak he is on. I suspect it wouldn't be close, but at the very least maybe entertaining.

I don't know all the ins & outs of PSU wrestling. Is "Big Snacks" Spencer Lee? Who do we have a better shot at landing -- Lee or Teasdale?

ATHENS high school. The greeks invented wrestling.

dismissed as chance...
Good catch! Although, to be fair, probably every other human civilization also invented wrestling. [footnote]

By the way, I have a hypothesis. Since seemingly every human body type can wrestle, even amputees, I hypothesize that evolution puts a HUGE value on wrestling--i.e., fighting ability. Otherwise, there would have evolved non-wrestling-capable body types by now. (Or not? I'm no geneticist.)

See, there are people whose eyes are too slow to let them play baseball (even against equal-weight opponents). So, evolution does not care about baseball!

Of course, the argument can go the other direction, too, to conclude that evolution loves slot machines, since every body type can play slot machines... Gotta be able to rebut that one before the next debate tournament ... :)

OK, thx

Do I understand it correctly that the younger Nevils' bro may be as good / better than Nick?
Seth is on track to have a better HS career than Nick -- meaning he is on pace to win 4 state titles, vs. Nick winning 3.

Whether he becomes as good or better than Nick on the mat instead of the credentials ... time will tell.

Tanning beds would be an example of evolution in retreat:

Duggan's Dad told me he will probably be at 197 in college....

Not putting Joe Lee on here since he is committed.

The coaches order goes like this for the class of 2018:
1. Teasdale (141)
2. Gable Steveson or Seth Nevills (285)
3. Shane Griffith (165/174)
4. Sammy Sasso (157)
