British Open Commercial Play Through - Use for football?

I loved the Play Through concept that they used for the British Open (that's what I will keep calling it). Showing the commercial while still showing a portion of the "action" of the golf was fantastic. I wish they used it in football and baseball.

This would be perfect for kickoffs. With the rule changes leading to more touchbacks, kickoffs are a pretty boring play most of the time. I imagine that they could use this concept for kickoffs and shorten the game time by 10 minutes or more.

For baseball this would be nice too. Perhaps use it with replays, pitching changes, or mound conversations.

Of course companies paying for the advertisement would rather the full screen, but it would be great to see the games move on a little bit quicker.

Agree...the win is that the consumer can't "zip" the commercial. This is most egregious with "the open" because many people watched it tape delayed. As such, many just recorded it and then just zip the commercials. I no longer watch live TV unless its sports, so I can zip commercials. Even PSU games, I often do my yard work on 12pm games and record the first quarter or half. I then catch up by zipping the commercials and watch the end of the game live. Point being, I am much more exposed to embedded commercials than full screen.

NASCAR has, for years, put the race in a small box while they run the commercial. If there is a wreck, they will interrupt the commercial to cover the race. Its a great idea.

NBC made up for the convenience by airing commercials every 3.5 minutes it seemed.
They basically ran 5 sets of commercials for every hole that Spieth played.

Haotong Li could have flown to Shanghai had a nice meal and returned in time in case of a sudden death playoff.

I DVR'd the open.....left with Spieth on 10, cut an acre of grass, trimmed and swept up the grass trimmings and returned to the tv with Spieth on 14.

Don't think my DVR has the capacity to record an entire round of golf at Spieth-speed!

You had time to put an addition on your house...

My wife and I went on vacation to Lake Tahoe when Spieth was on hole 2 and when we got back he had just finished making that eagle putt on hole 15.

I DVR all sports but especially PSU football and Villanova basketball. The open was also on DVR - love zipping through the commercials.
