looking back we had a really talented team = talent at all positions. looking at how good these guys were with a lot of NFL players, a couple things are surprising:

  • Daryl Clark looks to be good enough to at least have gotten to play in a pre-season NFL game. i recall he was released before even getting a shot on the field.
  • NFL talent everywhere - Odrick, Bowman, Lee, Quarless, Wisniewski among others
  • some who look awesome but did not have much time with NFL = Still, Drake, Royster, Green, DWill
this was a good team and shows Joe could still recruit NFL talent late in his career.

Not to dredge up this debate again, but Daryll Clark was both a better college quarterback and pro prospect than the guy he beat and forced to transfer out - and went on to collect years worth of NFL paychecks. It’s another in a long line of examples of the NFL’s systemic failure in evaluating quarterbacks.

sitting here watching Daryl, he could spin the ball nicely and was mobile. he was not a run first guy but a complete QB. I forgot he was BIG POY also.
seems like he would have at least gotten to play a pre-season game in the NFL.

also forgot Jack Crawford.

Agree with you.

I never understood how he did not catch on for a few years. He was a decent passer, could run to get out of a jam and was a big kid who could take the beating.

But I remember McShay bashing him in an all star game where I did not think he played all that bad.

Sad to say, but pro NMs are probably influenced by McShay and Kiper.

I think pro scouts get enamored with what they believe is the “ideal” for a professional quarterback at the expense of kids who have proven for years at the high-major college level that they can play it as good as anyone. It’s the reason why players like Christian Hackenberg (God love him) get drafted in the second round while players like Clark go undrafted.

It happens at every position, but it seems to happen at quarterback with a whole lot more frequency.

Jack Crawford had a interception form the defensive line today for the Falcons, had an nice year for them.

If an NFL game had been scheduled to play on that field that day it would have been cancelled.

The 2009 line was worse than the 2008 line. We didn’t have AQ Shipley. Lost both games in 2009 because the oline got pushed around by both Iowa and Ohio States Dline. Both losses were at home.

2007, 2008, and 2009 PSU should have played in BCS bowls all three years.

Would have loved to have Curtis Drake for a couple more years. What was the deal with him? I really can't remember.

Umm he and McMoxie got into it and Drakes cakes knocked him out. He was in and out of trouble constantly
