Buccos unload Jose Tabata for Michael Morse

You never run out of these, do you?
It took a long time to complete the trade. The Pirates were holding out, trying to get a bag of batting practice balls for Tabata.......Dodgers were hoping to land a case of Gatorade for Morse.

Neither side would budge till the final minute.

Truthfully, while neither guy is worth squat right now, both of them are under contract for 2016 (which is why the Dodgers had to also send some cash to Pittsburgh, since Morse's contract for 2016 was $4 million higher):

So, rather than having "insurance policy" (if we can even call it that) in the outfield (where the Pirates are pretty well set.....though cutting Gorkys loose today complicates that a bit)......I would prefer an insurance policy at 1B - assuming Pedro ain't gonna' be in Pittsburgh next year, and Bell may not be ready. I guess its one more "lottery ticket" for 1B if they can't land an upgrade in the offseason........so THAT move made sense at least.
