If I had to pick one thing to worry about it was the failure of McS to connect downfield.
At least at this point, he was not the sharp thrower of darts he was in last years BW game. He seemed to be lofting them up to see who would come down with the ball. And nobody took the downfield job. At least not yet.
On the other hand, I had the distinct feeling that players were playing not to get hurt, maybe at 75%.
That should change in August.
But if it doesn't, our O may take on a different style. They may be forced to rely on shorter passing, and a run first O. Its clear that we will open up more holes between the tackles. And very good depth at RB should be exploited.
The only WR who looked ready to go to me was Hamilton. He's overlooked but had a ton of completions in the BW game. And if anyone should "take it easy" as a senior, it would be him. But he didn't. He's hungry and wants to make a difference.
TE's are now two deep. Mr G, and Holland, who showed himself very effective in the traditional TE role. Looking ahead to next year we have the #1 and #2 TEs coming in. We should be ok even after Gesicki graduates to the pros.
At some point, one of our talented WRs will step up and become the true deep threat. Or maybe several of them will. But until that happens, we now have enough weapons to spread the ball around and score the old fashioned way, with ball control and long steady drives.
