I few comments if I may...
"Candidates would have to submit tax returns to the secretary of state's office, which would work with the candidates to redact some information before posting the returns online."
No, no, no, no, no! It's all or nothing here. If we're going to make tax returns public then no redactions. Without transparency we can't trust California Democrats NOT to politicize it.
Second, what's good for the goose is good for the gander. In other words, everybody's tax returns should be made public. If we can't trust the IRS to do its job then we all bear the consequences. None of this 'two sets of rules' $hit. Our elected officials should be treated no better or worse than the common Joe. That's how Hillary gets away with her malfeasance. "Oh, she's Hillary, so she doesn't have to comply." That's not how democracy works.
Third, despite his ideology Gavin Newsome won't sign it. Why. Because doing so means disenfranchising 4.5M Californians (how many voted for Trump in 2016). Not only would it be unconstitutional (like Jerry Brown says) but it would cause mass migration and economic upheaval, starting with the housing market. This is Federalism gone amuck. CA might as well cede from the union, which might not be a bad thing.
Lesson for you Democrats here. Talk is cheap. Time to put your money where your mouth is with all of these political stunts, to include Pelosi calling Barr a liar. And should you not like the fallout then remember who started it. Forget about losing gracefully, some of you people never learned how to lose.
